What a shame, hopefully there will be no jobs lost.

Make junk for as long as Remington has and have as terrible a customer service base as they have, what did they think would happen? I'm surprised it took this long.

Eh...wot?

A guy in Billings, MT. has been suing them for defective safties on their model 700's. His son was killed by one. His mom was unloading it and it went off, going through a horse trailer, killing him. The law suit isn't helping them any.

When people feel safe gun sales go down, I posted the other day how bad business has been over the last year not complaining just stating the facts~ Just glad it's not the fear we had before and the unknown was so stressful.

Very sad. No one should ever trust a safety.

2 questions:

1. What does this mean for the Marlin line of guns that they are now making ?

2. Hear a lot of people having to send guns , especially Marlin Lever Action Rifles, back to Remington to get them fixed, when they were bought brand new. Heard the time to fix the rifles is sometimes weeks. With that being said, if someone sends a gun back to Marlin/ Remington for repair, and while waiting for the gun to get fixed, Remington files Chapter 11; what happens to the guns that Remington/Marlin has in the repair room either being repaired or waiting to be worked on ?

The Company could go belly up and close up in 60 days. I believe that is the Federal Plant closing law that says they have to give workers 60 days notice of a plant closing.

This is sad. However, it speaks volumes for safe firearm handling and muzzle control. ALWAYS!

I didn't see for sure but I think this is restructuring , and not really a surprise.

I would hope that they break apart and run each line independently.

Marlin could remain it's own

remingtion shotguns could become it's own

H&R could be combined with marlin

bushmaster it's own

Remington rifles it's own

that way any part could be allowed to go under and not effect the others.

they should just give up on pistols they have been trying to break into that market for to long with very little success

ever since they were purchased by freedom group it was more of a wondering when they would get restructured

they may be going the way of Colt if they don't start listening to customers and building what people want and doing it well.

mosberg , savage , and ruger seem to have been listening to their customers much more lately , even S&W seems to have been spending more time listening , the M&P M2 seems to have answered most of the things people were customizing on the M&P line

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Remington gambled heavily on a Clinton win and lost, along with MANY other bad decisions. Though not as severe, many companies are feeling the effects of the Trump win. As stated above, the entire firearms industry is in a recession. Layoffs, cutbacks, STEEP price cuts, rebates: all signs of an industry trying to find footing. Cerberus goals have not been good for Remmy. Compounded with product problems and being behind the market as a matter of habit for decades now. Always behind the curve, makes it tough when you're in such a competitive market. Remington has seen tough times before; hopefully they can get their debt financed and restructure into a profitable company.

The Remington 700 safety/trigger problem has gone on for a long time. There was a recall of guns made between 2006 and 2014. Also a ton of barrel failures in 870s and 1100s. They settled a class action suit on that one years ago. Their product line has gotten cheaper and even included some imported guns, so all the symptoms were in place.
