I have many Remington’s and love the majority of the older ones. I emailed them a month ago about a problem I have with my grandpas old 742. I told them I have a 742 and it fired when loading. Told them the firing pin was leaving an indention on the primer when loading and one fired. Barrel was pointed at the ground when it happened. Over a week later I get an email that said we don’t work on those any more..... I recall every time I have emailed or called Ruger the question or issue was solved immediately . Believe my new guns will be Ruger or something else. I had the same issue with a 742. Nobody works on them anymore. The bolt breaks and goes unnoticed alot of time until the gun is pulled apart. They are junk but I still like mine.

And yet I bet the Remington prices in our 2 oligarchical gun stores in the city of pushing 200k won't drop by much. Its ridiculous the prices these 2 places want for new guns. I haven't bought anything new for a long time (except buying one for my kid)but I certainly wouldn't buy anything through these 2 brick & mortar places. But I guess there must be enough people who do...

Bought a 1100 the day I proposed to my wife 30+ years ago, put a hastings rifled barrel on it and scope about 4 years later and its been my slug gun. I've killed a ton of deer with it and it is in great shape. I also put the gun chaps over the forearm and stock to protect the wood in the field. Unfortunately they mass produced the 870 which in my opinion are throw away guns and they cheapened them greatly. I also have an older 30.06 that is a great gun. To keep up with competition they felt the need to cheapen their guns?

when do you think this change happened to the 870s? Mine is from 1993 and have had no issues with it... Look on the bright side, big GOP losses in the 2018 mid terms will have terrified gun buyers back in gun stores this fall and winter. LOL Remington gambled heavily on a Clinton win and lost, along with MANY other bad decisions. Though not as severe, many companies are feeling the effects of the Trump win. As stated above, the entire firearms industry is in a recession. ...

Makes me wonder how long parts will be available for those guns. Parts are no longer available for many of Remington's discontinued models. Back in 2005 I made the mistake of buying a new Remington 332. It was a replica of their famous model 3200 O/U. A few years later I was hunting grouse with it. A grouse flushed, I missed and when I broke the gun open to reload I heard a loud clang. I looked down and was surprised to see my barrels lying on the ground, the stock and forearm still in my hands. The lug that held the forearm on the barrels had broke off due to a crappy soldering job. I called Remington to tell them about the problem and, before I could begin, was informed by a very rude customer service rep that that they no longer made that gun and had sold all extra parts to a gun shop in California. I informed him I didn't need any parts, just wanted to know what Remington was going to do about it. The answer was nothing. I took it to my local gunsmith and had it repaired. That was the last new Remington I bought and likely ever will buy.
Eh...wot?

not at all. These types of conversations have to be happening with the management of gun companies. The political climate and consumer confidence or fear has a huge impact on their sales You trying to get this thread axed or yourself banned with that political post lebowski?

happens in every company investors (owners) want dividends not excuses every board meeting is not about how can we improve quality its how can we cut costs to improve our bottom line. im not sticking up for them but don't blame the workers or reps. they're told what to say that's like blaming a waitress (waiter) for a tough steak

When quality, reliability, and service take a back seat to increased profits this is what happens.
It's the same disease that killed Sears.
People can't grasp the concept that if you build a quality product for a reasonable price, and stand behind it, the world will beat a path to your door.
I would take decades of steady profit over a few quarters of record profits.

Does anyone make a reasonably priced firearm anymore?... One that is worthy of use and being passed down? Not stamped aluminum and Rynite!
I'd pay upwards of a grand for a bolt rifle that looked halfway nice and worked well enough to pass on to my grandkids when the time comes. Browning? Weatherby?
