Anybody familar with making pork rind fishing bait strips? The big commercial processer ain’t making them anymore. Seems you can get pork skin from the supermarket so what the hey seems like a good winter project!

The ones we used to make weren't tanned. The skin itself was thick enough that it would hook nice and not come off.

Another item we used a lot, (and I sold tons of to the crabbing industry) was the inside lip of pigs and calves. Real thick and grisly. If cut right, has 2 tails out the back. Lasts forever.

Pork rind baits weren't tanned. They were cured, and then stored in brine.

M.Magis is spot on! Cured, dyed, shaved, punched then stored in a salt brine.

I have fished strips of plastic bag with spoons. Works just as well.

Stir one pound pickling salt into three quarts water add pork and keep at about 36F for a month, stir all each week. Could add a cup of brown sugar to the salt for a better flavor. Some would add a Tablespoon of saltpeter.
