Parkland Florida, sounds like fire alarm was pulled and shooter was outside waiting.prayin for the best outcome possible, shooter not caught yet but know who he is. If that's how things happened, it's not the first time. The same thing happened at a school in the south several years ago. I think the shooter was only in seventh or eigth grade that time. -Jonesboro, Arkansas 1998

Schools around the country need to start preparing for these shootings. A properly trained and well armed person needs to be inside every school at all times and ready for when the next one happens...as it will.
They need to start doing drills on the subject as well. Kids need to be trained how to survive as.
Parents need to start really shouting for this to happen.
We know that burying our heads in the sand, waiting for some politician to out law guns isn't a real answer (nor should it be).
Surviving parents need to start filing lawsuits in hopes the typical liberal mentality of todays schools change. Money out is the only thing they seem to understand. They need to do a better job of protecting the kids.

It’s very sad and it’s a Societal issue. We used to take our shotguns and rifles to school for hunting before or after classes. We left em in our trucks in the student parking lot. Took one of the coaches a mess of squirrels one morning and we cleaned em behind the field house. Sure we had bully’s and mean kids back then and we got in some hellacious fist fights but no one got shot. Parents aren’t raising their kids right. That’s the problem.

This individual was being treated by a mental doctor, but quit.
An answer might be that you would hire past military for security and layoff a few of the ParaPros.
The security guard there was shot anyway. So more than one is needed in a 3200 student school.
Also, the security of entrance or exit with cameras and buzz in by staff that would know who to except.
Many avenues, just no gumption by the school boards and unions.

our school at least the junior high and elementary do have lock down drills not sure the high school does , while not saying they are active shooter drills they are . every class room locks when the door is closed , they move to a corner of the room that they can't be seen from the door and sit quietly.
this is unfortunately a new reality and the sooner schools accept they are a risk the better.
if I told you to build a building that you could secure it wouldn't look like a school does today
you would limit line of sight , you would provide cover , you would have auto locking fire doors to restrict movement and you would limit access.
many schools are going to pods basically wings of the school with a hall way connecting to a central loop , each pod should be individually lockable but most have no doors at all
people want to feel safe so they don't want to have to think about bad things , the reality is if they think about bad things and take appropriate measures to prevent they are safer but many want to take the head in the sand approach.
think about this like any other public event , who would let you have a 3200 person public event with 1 security guard , if you had a music festival you would be required to have a cop per every 1500 people minimum and depending on the even possibly 1 per every thousand or less.
schools feel a huge pinch as do local governments , the state has been reducing funding to both and requiring more of both for years at least here in WI. school taxes have been capped at less than inflation since 1993 , while additional testing and requirements have been added. this is why nearly every city or town in Wis has a referendum for school funding to exceed the cap nearly every other election cycle.
several years ago I spoke with the kids principal about this the changes took years , they made every class room lock , they put teachers and teachers aids monitoring halls during passing periods and morning entrance and exit on radios , every exterior door of the school is locked , the teachers access them with key cards , anyone coming to the school must press the intercom button to call the office who has cameras on the door and and you must get buzzed in. they also run lock down drills. the police maintain a strong presence at school start and exit.
I sometimes think they buzz the door a little quick but , generally they know I am coming and I have a unique enough appearance and they know me they likely watched me on camera approaching the door.
they have 2 types of lock downs , one where no one one may enter , we have had fugitives passing through town or being pursued near the schools as soon as they even get within a few miles dispatch calls the school and they go to lock down. the second lock-down has only been practiced and that is where every student must remain in a locked classroom.
the gods honest truth is if you have a person who is determined you won't be able to stop injury or possibly loss of life but you can buy time for a response force to arrive and limit the numbers. I know no one wants to hear that but it is the truth and the sooner they accept it and then decide what they can best do to limit the numbers and speed up the responce and how much money they are willing to put at it and what that will buy for time and responses the better.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
