I'm planning on doing some beaver/otter trapping in a creek behind my house. I have seen a lot of beaver signs, and beaver themselves swimming while I'm fishing. The traps I'm planning on getting for this is 1 330, 1 220, 2 #2 Coils, and 4 beaver snares. Would these traps be good for a beginner beaver trapper? Any other suggestions?

Just get a half dozen 330s and start there. Easy and very effective traps to catch beaver with.

220 and #2 coil are too small to be beaver traps. Can they catch and hold a beaver? Yes, but I wouldn't buy them for beaver.

When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.

I wouldn't recommend a 220 or a #2. Work on more 330's and if you want coil traps a #3 maybe a #4 would be a better choice.

. You got a Good answer, it's the Answer you must not like. I agree, Buy The bigger traps, set for any eventualities and you will avoid many unintended consequences. Skip the 220 and #2.

Looks like I'm going to but 2 or 3 330's and some snares. I will buy 1 or 2 220's For otter not beaver. Thanks for the help guys!

330's are what you want for beaver. I can't speak to otters because I've never trapped them. But perhaps someone here can advise on whether a few 280's would make a decent compromise that would work for combination beaver/otter traps.

Really, I think 330's are good otter traps, are they not?

One thing to remember is that anything larger than a 220 must be set completely under water in Indiana.

And don't forget that you need written, not verbal, permission to set snares on private property in Indiana.

Good luck! Those beaver sure are fun to catch.
