Sammy was pretty tickled about having two big Toms not 40 yards apart.

The rock cubby with the tensil, that’s the second Tom in that set.

The other set was a Dave Campbell special with a squirrel tail with some stiff wire Same had run between the hide and the bone about halfway up the tail and wired to a good size rock about 2 feet up in a natural cubby in the chinery.

I think I used Weisers or Graham’s cat glands and bedded the trap at the mouth of the natural cubby. I blended the set with dead dry leafs from the chinery then used my hand to make a fake trail from in front of the trap across the Pan all the way to the tail. Sam said the trap was one of my B& L 3’s with that big PIT pan. He was buried up in that rascal. I am pretty sure almost every trap I set was an old DLS that were in top working order.

Uncle BB, Tank learned a good lesson about messing around with our sets. I cant remember if it was the first or second day but he ended up in an old 3N of Sammy's, he didn't like it to much but I think he knows to not mess with those nice smells. He was fine and not hurt, his feeling were awful hurt though. Tank is a breed of dog unlike any I have worked with in many years. That dude doesn't get tired or slow down. He also has one hec of a nose and a natural ability to trail animals that left me darn near dumbfounded.

On a more personal note to you trappers. Sam and I had a great time setting the traps and picking up the two cats before I had to come home to go back to work. The time in the truck just talking and riding around was the pinnacle of the trip out there. Sammy is a great man, great father and one hec of a friend. Its a darn shame that he and Blake live so far from where I live. But, I am most likely gonna be going to Uncle BB's in March or April. I am sure gonna stop and see Sammy and Linda on my way out there.

I will know about BB's country when I head out there to run the legs off some turkeys. Now the country where Sammy lives and traps is some rough dang country for a fella from sandy soil east Tx. I did love setting traps out there in that chinery up on those mountains. I was gathering up as many #&#4 DLS as I could find and get drags and PIT Pans on them. For trail sets and just trapping cats I love my long springs.

I still love my coil springs but I have migrated to the longs because I wanted to go back to trapping with old school equipment. Just one of those things. When the cats and coyotes won't work sets I just follow tracked where they go into the brush or down a two track behind locked gates and I blind set them. Just doing this one thing upped my catch enough that Savell acknowledged the difference and he is one hec of a trapper himself and I value his opinion highly.

Savell's a loser, last I heard he'd left his ol lady and shacked up with a possum in a pop up camper at an undisclosed location, hahaha

Tell ol Sammy I said howdy, hopefully one day we can all get together again, never laughed so hard in my life as I did around you crazy Texan's.

That's a possibility! When is that, 2019?

Maybe Savell can sell enough lone star bottles between now and then to grace us with his presence.

Nope, I darn sure want to though. No hurricanes and nobody to buy coon meat. More deer can be seen in SAMs field in one day than you can see in ten years here. Turkeys., hogs that will run to a FoxPro with the squealing pig sound. Doves by the bunches Not quite like we saw in that huge lease that was all clear cut and goat weed belly button deep. I haven't ever seen that many dove anywhere. And I can see 1000 yards any direction I want to look.
