I caught one and moved it further down the lake a few years ago. It wasn't a job, just happened to be there and too many people were around and excited. The snake would have met a shovel or something. It wasn't hurting anybody.

There are quite a few snake removal threads in the ADC Archives forum https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/17/1/Animal_Damage_Control_Archive. One is at https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1228960/First_snake_call.html#Post1228960. Many more can be found using the SEARCH feature of the forum.

good advice so far...I would add that I've successfully used Cahaba Snake Trap as well a smaller homemade version using downspout material.

FWIW, I watched a rat snake go into a Cahaba in my very own house, when I got up at 2am to P.

WCS, the sponsor of this forum is where I bought the Cahaba.

I once used a Mouse nest from my wood pile in the back of the cage trap for a large Black Rat Snake. Worked.

Water snakes readily enter minnow/eel traps. If the body of water allows bait for minnows (dry cat food in a bag hung in trap) and the snakes will come for the minnows. Suspend trap with a portion above water for live catch.

if in a little water, use crawfish in the trap for bait. if not, use chicken eggs, or quail eggs, or rats / mice.

Sometimes the snake is too fast or sneaky.

I used to catch them commercially. Tongs and hunting them at night is very effective.
