Trapperkeck i respect your thoughts but living in small town or in a hunting oriented state like Minnesota I don't believe we truly see the big picture.

My statement was most people are not using guns for hunting.

Most guns bought today are by city people that have not and probably never will hunt. They are being bought for other reasons. Most for the glamour and the need to feel for protection.

Who made you in charge of what the proper intent of firearms is? I don't believe guns are solely intended for hunting use. Using or owning them for purposes other than hunting doesn't make them less than.

Right. The right to keep and bear arms had nothing to do with hunting. I could care less what someone's reason for gun ownership is, as long as they aren't shooting at me and my family/friends.

Exactly what's wrong with our society.

I never made myself in charge or implied I am making a law you can only have guns for solely hunting. People are so fast to jump at what they disagree with they don't take the whole point in.

My point is guns are being betrayed today as negative as they are being used to promote violence. So if you want to keep your head in the sand in that area than by all means lash out on me for trying to keep the guns image as good.

I was raised for using guns to put food on the table.

But they might be someday and than you would care.

I have been shot at and have shot at people. Trust me that get real real fast.

"lets stop school sports and other extra cirrucular activities temporailly and instead use the money on metal detectors."

We can do this, but I would recommend we retain basketball and move it to midnight.

How about they just ask for donations for metal detectors at the sporting events. Could, likely, raise the money a lot faster. High school groups could have gun raffles for fundraisers for the new metal detectors too!

"Flu has killed 22 more children, the most reported since the respiratory virus began slamming the country in the fall, according to a government report released Friday. The total number of flu-related pediatric deaths is now at least 84 nationwide."

"The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the deadliest in history, infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide—about one-third of the planet's population—and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including some 675,000 Americans."

Things need perspective.

I say drag the perpetrator behind the riding lawnmower at the school until gone . Visual deterrents work best when comprehension is limited at a young age.

The shooter's lawyer is a pathetic liberal lawyer. I thought that she was going to kiss him right there in court. He is a product of the system, being coddled and getting his own way by people like this ambulance chaser. SHAME ON HER!

Then he pleads guilty to avoid the death penalty even though he killed 17. HE SHOULD FRY. He had his chance at life and blew it so he should die at the hand of a firing squad.

The family, school administration, local authorities and FBI blew it. They all need to take responsibility.

ARM TEACHERS!!!!!

Perspective is the point I've been trying to make with my post. In both instances a choice is made to terminate the life/lives of individuals. However as a society we determine one is legal yet the other is not. How can a rationale human being accept this way of thinking when both lead to the same outcome? No wonder people are confused today.

How do we force parents to raise their kids in an environment where morals and respect for life/authority are emphasized?

I don't think ya can Mike.
Ever hear the saying, "it takes a village to raise a child"?
I know some very nice people who have parents who didn't make them as decent as they are. They got that way thru people at school and their community.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a public school system that didn't try to undermine parentally instilled values?

Agree. I have family members who are living proof of this. My mother and aunt were raised in the same household by the same parents... There is a night and day difference between them and the way each raised their own kids. And in spite of my aunt, my cousins have done well for themselves overall. But they had to make a conscious choice not to follow in her footsteps.

I heartily agree with this. I've already related this, but your sentiment is one of the main reasons my grandfather quit being a teacher back in the 60's. He saw where this country's education system was headed and wanted no part of it.

This would not even have had a second paragraph on a wire service in 1965. We owe most of our problems to our perspective of our problems.

O... K... That was really random.

On the flip side we could do away with religion completely and any kids who act up get loaded in a boxcar and sent to a gulag.

Mike

Social media is more dangerous to conservative values than any liberal teacher. Yet most parents provide their children with unlimited access.

It's also the greatest threat to children's safety.
