I am wanting to make a dozen floating mink boxes for next season and I was wondering if a 160 would be to big? Since we have plenty of otters as well, I want something that will work well for mink but snag any nosey otter that may poke his head in the box. I have been told that a "quality built" 120 will hold an otter but, I don't know.

Have you talked to anyone that has used these floating mink boxes? Not trying to talk you out of It but I'm betting your good old pocket set or blind set will do you better.

And If you put a pan on that 160 I think you would be better off when using It for mink.

I catch a few mink in 160's every year. Small sticks or long grass stems can narrow down the opening

The main reasoning behind using mink boxes is to hopefully cut down on all the coon catches. I believe that every time I make a pocket set that a dozen coon's race each other to see who can get caught and drown first. The next reason for the floating box is that I trap tail waters and the rivers rise and fall by feet daily and trying to plan ahead for where the water MAY be during peak activity time is difficult to say the least.

I use single spring 160’s in water for mink, they are much preferred over 110’s.

That's true, I've smoked more than one adult beaver in the 2 springs. On dry trails 2 spring 160s are better. If I had otter in numbers it would be different.

A 120 will put an otters lights out in seconds,if he sticks his head in it.

As you can see from these incidental otter catches in mink boxes, they don't even move the trap.(those traps are just setting in slots)
