Nice looking calf. I see a crab on the heifer's head. LOL

I was a black angus calf today and it was a cold one this morning. It looked like a statue never moved was cold as heck I bet. I know the rancher and I'm sure it wasn't suppose to come this soon. LOL Most here wait till April to calf any more.

. You are correct their Mom's cost us $1,900 each bred...that was 3 years ago already, but then we bred them UP twice to this bad boy!
And their will be no shot to the head for my Heifers, trying to build a small herd. wink

The sad thing is $1900 for a bred heifer 3 years ago was a decent deal. I still have some I paid over $2500 for, and that was on the low end for that particular sale. Though the check for the the weaned calves back then helped it hurt less. laugh
For me, I find I'm time and money ahead to buy bred cows or pairs vs raising my own.

When I didn’t have a bull the 3n1 deal was great, but now I prefer to breed to my own bull. The cow being bred doesn’t add any value to me, and I always wonder what sort of calf I’ll end up with. Those cows ain’t always bred to the “black” bull every seller claims. laugh

In our area, we swap an angus bull from small farm to small farm. It is much cheaper when a bunch of people share the cost of the bull, to breed relatively small herds of cattle. We are able to purchase a much better quality bull, since the expense is shared. The bull stays busy and it cuts down the cost of feeding him for each farmer.

There may be farmers in your area willing to do the same thing.

Keith
