I have looked at this auction and past auctions and noticed that the skunks grade I-II. None of them grade I or better. Does anyone know why that would be? Also I have a couple skunks that didn’t show up as graded. Does this mean that they determined them to be worthless and discarded them?

They probably won't discard It. I have had one at NAFA for 4 years.
I don't know what the deal Is with skunks other then I see where they will be offered on PT.

There is a very limited market for skunks in the International fur trade. Most skunks go to the tourist/craft trade.

By grouping the Is and IIs together it makes them easier to sell. You will notice on the completed catalogs that the price drops off a bunch when you get to the IIs and IIIs and IVs. If they pulled out just the Is by themselves, there would be even more skunks sold for 50 cents and down. Grouping the Is and IIs together is a good thing.

I'm thinking that all of the skunks didn't get get put up for this sale. Your missing skunks will most likely show up on your May lotting leather. There is only so much time to get fur ready for the auction. Skunks, possums and nutria are not high priority. smile

The fur market is down. You guys should send in your pelts to get tanned and sell them on eBay that way. I get fox tanned for 12 bucks each, and sell them to kids and even some teachers at my school for 50.

That sounds good
Problem is anyone with a good amount of fur will have a tough time with that. As soon as you exhaust friends, family and neighbors your market gets tough. eBay is not a good place for tanned goods right now. It's flooded with fur. And anyone with quality fur won't be able to sell tanned very easy because the people buying look at price and not quality generally. So it benefits Alabama type fur more then someone from say Montana

Who you using for the $12 tan? Does that include the shipping there and the shipping back?

Thanks for the explanation wissmiss, it makes sense. This is only the second time I have sent fur to the auction so when I had missing pelts I wasn’t sure why they weren’t showing up.

Send in 20+ skunks at a time and the price per skunk is about cut in half for tanning.
