Impressive!

I use a modern version of the same trap all the time here. I can buy a 3 holer in Spain for $3. The greatest thing is that once you catch one, it doesn't set off the other holes.

Still not the volume trap of the 5 gallon bucket with the peanut butter on the can, but for house trapping they are great.

laugh Cool. I would have never thought they would chew through the string so fast.

That Is way to cool. I can see me and my grandsons have another trap to build this summer.

I bet a little bigger version would take pine squirrels.

I knew the griz guy wasn't the first guy to invent the DP. LOL

I wonder what might be an inexpensive source for the springs?

Just looks like stiff wire

You could use a stiff bar and a small coil spring set under It and then compressed when setting.

You can get music wire on amazon, ebay, grainger and more if you google it.

I have bought piano wire at hardware stoes in the past. That is what you would want for the springs. The other loop wire can be just soft annealed thin wire, also avalible at hardware stores Ace is the place! lol

The first thing that came to my mind was a wire rat stretcher.

Here's the one I get in Spain. https://letsbrico.fr/shop/wolfpack-5450105-piege-a-souris-en-bois-3-trous-28-mm.html

The wire looks like some sort of copper. They last a long time too.

Looks to be a pull trigger instead of the chew the string.

that's a top mouse trap.....I know in the far east, most of the countries there are still a bit in the stone age when it comes to trapping mice....they use sticky paper...effective but a bit cruel as it takes ages for the critter to die...I remember being kept awake all night in a cheap hotel room while some mouse was struggling on the sticky paper...I think it was in the Philippines about 10 years ago.
