Trap way more than my share of western cats in 5 states over 50 years and never had one even get close to pulling a stake. Most are content to try the trap a few times and do some chewing on vegetation and then try to get content an wait for you. In the west we trap a lot of cats under cedar trees and rock ledges and they like to be able to hide and if they can do that they just wait for you. If you do get them out in the open they will tend to fuss a bit more. My advice is to have enough chain or cover that they can hide and they will just relax, totally different than coyote fox or coon

Cats are wimpy in a trap for an animal of their size. Can hold them by one toe.Have released a few caught as incidentals in mink boxes held by a toe or two.

Any lions in that country?
Danvee is spot on ,
Lion will if not expected I had one pull a crossed staked earth anchor on a short chain once .no more short chains this was when they first came out and I listen to some guys tell me no need for long chain Anymore.
Lion got hung up got my traps back.

When, I first started trapping I used stakes. On several occassion I noticed that when I set near trees cats would pull stakes as they tried climbing. Going to cable that problem all went away.

I agree,no pumping but they use leverage,if they can climb or wrap around an object.I don't trust single stakes for that reason.Apply common sense when anchoring anywhere. One method doesn't work in every situation.

No need for 4 coiled traps either a average 2 coil will hold them like MTred says lions are different and I have had to deal with to many and choose to have them pull out and gone but lion can pull a stake. The only critters I have had pull stakes is a coyote and beat them long ago with smooth stakes and longer chains. I have not lost one to stake pulling in years with that set up.

Years ago Coon trapping , I had a bobcat find his way into a 1.5 cs set for coons in a pocket type set in a Big log. It was single staked. The cat somehow got leverage Id say from the big log and pulled the stake. Ran 10 yards and got tangled in ball of fence wire. Got very lucky on that one.
