My 17 year old son tried to get on the ice after school with some buddies to do some fishing last night. As he was trying to pull his buddy's truck out (deep snow with slick tires), he heard a "woof" under the hood. He called me right away as I was only a mile or so away at home. When I arrived the flames were 20 feet high. The other truck was still stuck in the snow right behind his burning rig, so I managed to get it pulled clear with my truck. Then the shotgun shells that were under the seats started going off. What an ordeal. Liability insurance only as it had 365K miles on it.

The good thing everyone is fine but I bet it was a little scary for the boys.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Last year hauling silage for the in-laws the truck quit just as I left the pit and I went to restart it and heard the woof lucky I coasted down the hill and got to a hose to put it out still melted everything plastic/rubber under the hood.
Gland the young man is OK it sucks to lose a truck like that.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

A lot of insurance companies would not have covered the loss with full coverage because it happened "off road". Simply not true. Most insurance companies cover vehicles on the ice and in the event they go through the ice. If yours doesn't you have the worng insurance company.

Man that sucks. I'd still check with your insurance company, never know, there might be something they can do.
Ford? He's only got liability ins ....as stated in the original post....that means ,the ins company will pay for damages to the other party....and you are S...out of luck on your vehicle.......lol

It was a 2003 F150 with almost 400K miles on it. Not worth much if ever he would have tried to sell it, but he's finding out that it's costly to replace. I had a good idea it was a Ford, most that burn are. Awhile back they had some for problem that was causing them to catch fire, and some were parked in a connected garage that burnt house and all. They had a recall on the ignition switch if i remember right. (that and oil leaks, Fords are like Harley's in that catagory.)
