On cats and coyotes I made a tail board to pin to from a 1×3 on my coon boards I just sandwich the tail between two pieces of hardware cloth leaving the tail only about 8 in or so long it's worked for me well I've also have been very please with top lot split boards

The Nevada style put-up looks a LOT better. A good presentation always helps. IMO.

I put-up my first cats a couple days ago to send to the tannery. Experimented a little with different put-up styles just to get a feel for it. Used Top Lot coyote/cat adjustable boards on two. Used two cat stretchers with the belly board on the other two. Just for simplicity sake, I'd get the cat specific adjustable with belly board to do the Nevada style put-up. There's a reason top producers achieve more, they put more in.

You may not make fur look better with a put up but you can make it worse.

"A select quality pelt can be downgraded to a 2 by poor handling by the trapper". Straight from a NAFA grader.... Selects and 1 grades are guaranteed dress able by NAFA.

One thing I notice on a lot of the cats put-up Nevada style is, the white of the belly extends to the inner side of the back legs. When the back legs are brought together, it makes the white belly appear longer. I see very few cats caught in MO that have any white on the inner back legs. Inner front legs are white with black markings, but not the back. I like the Nevada style put-up. Looks great on good cats. Improves over-all appearance, plus, it involves a little more effort, which tends to be an indicator of skillful fur-handling. For me, doing Necada style cats is just a personal ambition to do my best. The western cats though, they look so much better. Lot more eye appeal.
