I just bought 3, Rich Dad Poor Dad, The only Investment book You'll ever Need, and an investment terms dictionary. I have a lot of learning to do before I retire in the next few years. Do you have a favorite book that has made a difference in your life?

Will do, thank you. I looked online at books, and good god, I could buy 10 a day and never get them all in a lifetime. Lol

Dave Ramsey is a debt counselor, not an investment guru. Now. If you are sitting in a world of debt, by all means, check him out. LOL

If you're only a few years away from retirement and you are wanting to invest FOR retirement, you are behind the curve. If you are simply wanting to invest while IN your retirement, that is a whole other situation.
If you're a gambler, I don't have any advice other than don't grow very fond of your money. Rich Dad, Poor Dad is more idealistic storybook than factual so understand that when reading it. It does have some good concepts. The Peter Lynch books are excellent, imo. As stated earlier, check out Dave Ramsey. The Book of Proverbs is also excellent general counsel for all stages of life.

I have been investing in stock where I work, for almost 20 years! When I retire, it will be bought back by the company, via 5 yearly payments. Once the buyback starts, my stock value will no longer change, but they will pay 6% on what they hold until paid off. I wish I could keep it there after I retire, but that is not an option. I will need to invest this money, rather than have it in savings. I have saved for too long to put it at risk, especially at retirement. That is why I need to get with the program right now. I know that money in savings does not gain much in interest, so I want to put at least some of it where it is making a better rate of interest. I'd also like to invest some for my childrens future, as well! Thanks for the replies folks!!!

1) The Wealth Conundrum. It's a little booklet basically but very good. It's really about not being attached to your money but doing good with it and the benefits that comes from being a generous person.
2) The Millionaire Next Door. Every person should read this book when they start their career. It's amazing how many people have huge incomes but never end up with a much retirement or security as people who make a fraction of their income.
3) Anything by Dave Ramsey is good about being good with money, investing, saving, not wasting money.

It's amazing to me you think of him that way. I have read a lot of his stuff, listened to his radio program, gone through his course, etc. I have never thought of him as a debt counselor. Ever. I wouldn't call him an investment guru but he is way far towards that end of the spectrum than he is towards being a debt counselor.

As a Financial Planner, I encourage everyone to read "Simple Wealth Inevitable Wealth" by Nick Murray. One of the top books out there IMO.

I can think Dave Ramsey and one college professor for helping me understand how to put together a good 401k/IRA. He gives as many strategies for building wealth as he do s getting out of debt.

Ramsey is not just a debt counselor. He covers investing on his radio show--which I enjoy listening to.

It's even funnier to me that I hold a broker-dealer securities license and Dave does not. He is a fantastic marketer, I have to give him that. Who knew one could make so much money just by spewing common sense over and over!
