I have been working getting the freezer cleaned out and finishing the pelts, I had 5 bobcats and 5 coyotes in my basement and the wife wanted me to move some out so she could pull her car in, so I took a couple of the coyotes and put in the loft of my barn. They had been drying for 3 days in the basement before taking them to the barn, it rained for a couple days and I went up and checked them today and my biggest and best coyote had some mold on the skin. Its just a thin layer kinda splotched but is there something I can do to clean it so it'll be ok? Thanks for any help

Is It on the leather side? Leather side still out after 5 days? Do you plan on turning It fur out?

If so a little WD-40 will take care of It.

It was on the leather side but I turned it fur out after 16 hrs, and it was fine 3 days later but when I put it in the loft of the barn and we had rain for 2 days straight it had the mold on it, it was in a dry area just wandering if the moisture in the air caused this and what I could do, I'll try the wd-40 tomorrow. Thanks

Confused. Mold is on the leather side, but the pelts are fur out? So the only mold you are seeing is in the bottom inch or so of the pelt, by looking up into it?

Yea, looking up from the bottom side I can see it on the leather. I'm using wire stretchers(because its all I have) and I can see up inside a ways and there is mold on the leather

Wipe it down with acetone on a rag.Acetone kills the mold, removes moisture that caused the mold and evaporates quickly, not leaving any oil.I've never had mold come back after using acetone.

Vinegar works for me same thing as wiping down a good country aged ham
