Looked at a National Match model at a gun store a few years back. Really nice rifle... Beautiful action, nice stock.

But I wouldn't want to tote one very far.

was at the gun show today , I worked the kitchen but got a chance to walk around some

30 round plain metal mags 30 dollars , 20 rounders 25 dollars but they didn't seem to be moving much at that price

plenty of rifles to buy AR lowers going for 139 , bunch of people wanted to much for their AR

some ar parts fairly priced

I think I can safely say the best sellers were brats , Hot dogs and pop well at least from my view.

somebody must have been selling stuff , the parking lot was packed

Aix, I would tote it the bench and back all day long. If I had been rich enough to pay what they wanted for that beast, I would proudly own it now...

But I wouldn't want to carry it around a combat zone all day... It was heavy enough with the mag empty. Lol

I was at a Gun show in Grand Forks N.D. on Saturday. There were lots of tables with AR stuff. I seen one guy with Magpul 30 rd mags for 10.00 and was not selling out. Lots of uppers and only seen one walk out the door. A guy from Minot N.D. had complete AR's for 450.00 each and never seen one sell. Many stripped upper receivers and stripped lower. The AR stuff just wasnt selling.

I never seen much of anything sell.

I hear ya. I’m not saying I have buyers remorse, because I don’t, but I sure would like to have a Socom 16. It’s the one I started out wanting to buy, but I ended up getting the loaded stainless. The Socom is short, and I think it’d be more handy for quick shooting. Almost 3 lbs lighter as well. Maybe one day...

I should have been paying attention, I'd have like to went to that show. Any idea who was selling the magpul's?

I went and visited my local sporting goods store Sunday.

The AR15 rack was about empty. Usually there's up to 2 rows of guns.

Some were even buying the combo .223/300 Blackout by Ruger.

the show is a club fund raiser I go work because I reduce my dues by half working 2 shifts , I don't have to work very hard either there is a fair amount of bull shooting going on , yesterday they had me run the cash box for the kitchen. till we sold out of food , the door brings in money as does the kitchen ,selling out all the tables insures we don't loose money everything else I think is money int he bank. we were selling pop for 1.50 a 12oz can hot dog for 2.00 Brat for 3.00

I would trade my very heavy LR .308 for an M1A1/M14, awesome rifle from the get-go! They maybe heavy but my LR is heavier still, think she is a bit over 12 pounds with the heavy match barrel. I am going to sell that barrel and put on a longer lighter barrel. Prices have come down on custom barrels.

Been looking for a RRA LAR 8... But I'm committed to paying off the house and car notes... So it has been on the back burner.

WRONG !!! Most of the sales are to people that already own one. Those of us that have no use for them don't want one at any price........
Me personally if you gave me one I would sale it. For the way and what I hunt I have no use for one.
BUT to each his own , it is America

I used to feel much like you. I think they are ugly and I have no use for one for hunting purposes. I have a single shot .223 that I use for coyote hunting and much prefer it over the AR-15 for hunting. I have an M1 Garand for rifle shooting matches and for use as a national defense rifle. So, I don't really have any use for an AR-15

But I sold my old SKS a month or so ago and then bought an AR-15 just a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I figured the .223 Rem would be cheaper to shoot and I already have reloading dies for it. Now, having had one for a few weeks I can see why most shooters find them so appealing.

1. .223 ammunition is probably the most economical rifle ammunition to buy right now. So AR-15's are relatively inexpensive to shoot.
2. They are very light weight and easy to handle. The way they quickly break down into two pieces without needing any tools makes them appealing for use as a general camp, truck, or canoe gun.
3. They are just fun to play with if you enjoy guns and shooting as a hobby. There's numerous options to customize them for the way you want to use them. You can set them up as a night-time hunting gun with infrared sights, lights, illuminated scopes, etc. Or set it up as a battle rifle so you can pretend to be Mr. Tactical, the special operator. Or set it up as a competition match rifle like I plan to do. Or just leave it stock and have fun plinking cans and targets.
4. They are currently desirable to own by a large number of people and easy to re-sell at a fair price.
5. Everyone American minuteman should have a good battle rifle at the ready in case they should be called to come to the defense of their state and nation. The AR-15 serves this purpose very well because it is chambered for the current military/NATO cartridge and replacement parts for it would be commonly available.
6. The AR-15 is the most commonly used rifle in the Civilian Marksmanship Program and National Rifle Association high-power rifle target competitions. These are time-honored, rifle marksmanship contests endorsed by the federal government in an effort to improve the rifle marksmanship of the general population. You would not be allowed to use most of your hunting rifles in typical high-power rifle shooting matches. But the AR-15 fit right into the service rifle matches.

Personally, I can see where you are coming from jbyrd63. I think AR-15's are ugly and not a very good choice for a hunting weapon. They are definitely not an example of the fine art of gun making. Their cheap plastic, anodized aluminum, and dangling bits make them atrocious looking things, I think. Plus, I find all the wannabe Delta Force operators "running the AR-15 platform" to be especially annoying, foolish, and ridiculous. But other than that, AR-15's make excellent "fun guns" for plinking and economical general shooting, competition target rifles, and freedom rifles to have on hand if our nation should ever need to be defended against foreign enemies. While I still prefer a small shotgun for home defense purposes, I can see why an AR-15 would be a good choice for defense of home and hearth for those living in the country where shooting at a varmint at 200 yards is more likely than shooting at a burglar in the house. There is no doubt that the AR-15 fills a reasonable, useful and utilitarian role in the average shooter's gun cabinet.

The AR-15 - it's not just for the Rambo wannabe's anymore!

it is somewhat amazing , every time we go to war the brass says hey it's taking to long to train these enlisted men to shoot again , it should be second nature by the time you get to 18.

it started the NRA soldiers after the civil war were appalled by the lack of knowledge so many recruits had with a rifle that they formed training for civilians so that should we go to war again we teaching men rifle basics wouldn't need to be as large a part of the training .

I think they said the same thing after WWI and started the DCM Department of civilian Marksmanship today we know it by it's new name the CMP Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Most of the 'new' gun owners that I come across think that once they make their purchase they are now good to go.

That is especially true for the new handgun owners/carriers. If you offer to take some time out of your day to give them some training they look at you like your nuts...they really think that training is not necessary at all.

Its a sad situation....
