The floor needed some love , but I didn't want to empty the house and sand forever to improve the color .

So I'm just cheating a bit , and only doing a few boards at a time


1. Move furniture
2. Clean the floor ( the wife wanted to help with this step )
3. Lightly hand sand and wipe clean
4. Apply a thin coat of tinted polyurethane to change color ( original color too orange )
5. Wait 24 hrs
6. Lightly sand and wipe clean
7. Apply a coat of clear polyurethane ( 2 parts semi-gloss / 1 part satin )
8. Wait 24 hrs
9. Lightly sand and wipe clean
10. Apply a second coat of polyurethane ( same ratio as first coat )
11. Wait 48 hrs to replace furniture


The one ingredient missing to make this painless is an ice cold beer ..........but I don't drink

Thanx Mike ......... I will never do it again ...lol .......it's all individual pieces ( not panels ) and like a crazy mad man I did the whole house , all of it including bathrooms , stairway , kitchen , every room basically ( no closets though , I ran out of material. )

It looks better stained. I would love to redo my hickory with a slight tint. It's prefinished and I can't stand those micro grooves!!!

I need to redo my floors , have nice oak all around the outside but darn those Yankee floors , box pine soft garbage wood in the middle of each room where they were covering it with a rug

the dining room is bad enough that I need to pull all that garbage pine out and replace it

The weird blue reflection of the glass makes the dark blue look a little green in the picture

My orbital floor wax sander can be used to sand wood floors they say, I can buy sanding screens for it, I want to redo the floors but I have no place for furniture

I've got somewhere near 3000 feet of wood floor here if you'd like to acclimate those Knees to better help others.

I don't know if they are in your area, but ya can have one of those "pod" containers left at your place for the furniture storage while ya do the floors.

Stuff is so heavy I didn't want to go out side, got a garage, couch n love seat are real heavy even with the backs removed

Beautiful. I like the darker color. You probably know this, but you can recoat polyurethane that has dried but not cured (usually between 2-8 hrs) without sanding. It can save some time depending on how many coats you’re doing. Floor looks great.

On the last coat you want to really work the polyurethane out of the brush achieving a thin coat.
