I told the local Warden once that if that ever happened to me he could come and release it for me. Said he didn't think he was interested. "It would take stones", I think more like boulders.
B Ya, like cant find pants that fit kind of boulders. Just that split second while you figure out whether that ticked off bit of furry death is gonna fight or flight. The scary thing is that the cat doesn't likely know what its gonna do either during that split second. Glad we dont have those here.

"ensnared in a toe trap" , dumbest thing I've heard of misnomenclature .

Man I hate that site. Slowed my computer down to a crawl. I left several pro trapping comments, I wonder when they will be visible. Those UK folks don't have a clue.

Goofy Brits.
"...cat runs around tree..." No, its a shrub aka sagebrush or something like it. But the only shrubs that Brits see are in their ornamental landscaping and this looks nothing like humid plants so it must be a tree.
"wrestled to the floor". No, it was wrestled to the ground, floors are inside buildings. Does it look like its inside of a building??
"trapper wrenches trap off of cat's foot". Sort of overkill here, no? Couldn't they just use "released" instead...?
But then again, we can goofball writers in the US as well. I remember a photo in the local paper (can cover about half the state) showing a guy with a nice big buck deer. The caption read that the animal was taken with a ".243 gauge rifle". Obviously clueless about firearms.
Another time there was a story about our metro from a larger urban newspaper and the city was identified as "Sioux City Falls, ND". I informed them that they were confusing 2 different cities and 3 different states. The response I got was "whatever"...
"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground". Genesis 1:26

very precise, methodical, and quick release, think he's done it before, oh and like the comments about how they caught it in a snare! RR Yeah I would have to say he's done that a few times before also.
