Was givin an Oldtimer improvised muskrat knife from, well... an Oldtimer. Just wondering if any of you use one as an EDC? What are your thoughts on this particular knife? Couldn't upload the picture but it has Schrade USA 770t on one of its carbon blades.

Not really sure what an EDC is, but I've had an Old Timer Improved Muskrat (770t) in my pocket for over 30 yrs. Went through a few over the years (made in USA ones). I like em, I can gut and take apart an elk, deer etc. with it, skin stuff, whatever I need . Takes a edge quick and holds it long enough to get through the job or a couple quick licks with the steel and back at it. Usually keep my eyes open for the USA made ones, like to have a spare or two in the drawer.

I have and old timer 770T and really like it. By far my favorite pocket knife and the having two of the same blades is much easier for me. It is a good all-around knife.

2004 was the year I got back into trapping after a decades long lay-off.

That was the same year Schrade sold the company to Taylor LLC and they moved production to China. I bought the last half-dozen American-made Old Timer 77OT Improved Muskrats my dealer had in stock. I been using one of them as my skinning knife ever since.

I gave one to my daughter who was my trapping partner at the time. She has skinned hundreds of fox with hers.

Four are still in they boxes the came in. My eight-year-old granddaughter and newest trapping partner will likely start skinning fox on her own next year and she'll get one of them.

I like having two blades the same size.

What is an EDC?

Eh...wot?

They were great and knives before they ruined them, by cheapening the Steel. Wish I had about a dozen of the old ones.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

How do you identify American made?

Decide what you want in life then make it a reality.
