Which species of ground squirrel are you trying to trap? Some folks seem to like “The Black Fox ground squirrel trap” for ground squirrels in California- http://thetrapmaker.com/wordpress/

For me, the 5x5x18 double doors are very effective. Catch everything from flyers to reds with them.
