Guy are you referring to grading as put up? I'm a little confused...

I think he means lotting.
The auctions use valuations to mix sizes and grades to get larger lots which the Chinese mass producers want.In other words if they put a valuation on a lg dmg II A,and their valuation of a xl dmg II C is the same they will mix them into the same lot to get a larger lot.

The Market is the Market and disputing prices levels is nonsense, the crux of the matter for us is where they put my skins! I know fur and I now fur well, and the put up and offering at each of the Major Houses is at best Sad and at worst criminal! Year after Year I try to Market goods in several different outlets for the simply fact that from time to time you can greatly benefit from a sudden Market swing whether your goods were graded properly or not! What I want is competent, skilled people with actual knowlage and skill lotting my goods, the price is inconsequential! The put up at both places today is a nightmare and that is the deal breaker!I hear the story every time I ask that prices are so low it makes no sense to fine grade articles BS!As a harvester I want my fur graded properly each species each time, I don't care if there is a dime difference in grade I want my skins graded right! Perhaps if the level of put up had not dropped in the last few years purchasers would be more willing to raise levels on grades that they know are clean, now they know they are buying a pendulum swing in each string, what is the incentive to compete! I don't know, perhaps I'm just a jaded, cranky old man who longs for days gone bye but something is not right here beyond our shrinking, volatile market!

It's kind of like the old cliché, If Momma Isn't happy then know ones happy. That can probably relate to the buyers.

I had 32 coon on the sale - a mixture of very good as well as quite a few early coon. I averaged just over $7.00 on the 29 that sold. That compares to just over $14.00 on a very similar group sold a couple weeks ago at NAFA. The difference? The top end coon sold the same - in the $20-$25 range. The 2X I&II and II's and the 3X 1&II's and II's brought $$6-9 at NAFA and only $2 - $3 at FHA. I guess the "demand" for slate and blue coon never materialized!

In either house I would like the grade to stay some what close to previous years it would help at getting new shippers to gage whether or not to ship imo

Well..... not happy, my marten shrunk, went pale, didn’t sell and what did sell brought about half of what last weeks NAFA sale did.
Did I mention that I am not happy. Hopefully there will be some private treaty sales.

I'm with you on marten, GUK. Mine probably went for half what the NAFA sale brought. Pretty happy with a $51 avg on a couple of fisher, and a weasel at $7.20. Anyone else with marten in the sale care to share? Wonder what the heck happened there.

Most of the things I had there sold. The beavers I had there actually brought more than I expected. Coyotes did well I think for our MN coyotes. Only had 1 coon there, that went better than the average. I am not going to complain with todays fur market. Even my RR beavers did just as well as the others the same size did.

Not unusual for Maine Marten to go for a third or less than what the Alaskan or better Canadian Marten sell for, size just isn't there. Also doesn't help that the season starts to early to produce skins that will constantly grade HVY.

Lol i only sent 68 reds to this one and while I'm not an expert by any means I do catch and handle a couple hundred in a given season and I like to think I can tell a decent fox from a junker. I sent the ones I did after I weeded out a few rougher ones.

Out of 68 reds I sent , 31 of them graded Regular II b-c color. That's the 5.00 fox in most any year lol. I have a pretty good feel for what I send and when you weed out the bad ones and that's the grade you have left I think I got reason to suspect something went awry. All of North America only had about 450 of them and I managed 31?? Lmao!

Correct. But my marten averaged $26.25, compared to near $50 for a similar lot at last year's Helsinki sale frown

I wonder why they didn’t offer any black beaver. There was none in the catalogs that were offered and I had one that wasn’t offered, thought maybe they sold them PT but don’t look like it.
