Don't remember the thread that someone asked if I had used the 330 Round Body Grip on beavers yet, anyway set it Saturday for the first time and got this 41lbs male in a blind set in about 3 feet of water, channel about 8 feet wide. Set it on the bottom and stacked some small logs over it and a little fencing on the sides and he was there Sunday morning

As you can see it hit right behind the head, there appeared to be very little disturbance at set site

So far I'm impressed with performance but as you all know, one time is not enough to fully evaluate but this will be used on three sites in the next few weeks on locations with known large beavers so I will keep you updated

Two locations have at least one very large beaver hope to catch their educated butts, as it blends nicely into the environment

I purchased some 440's to try this spring (if spring ever comes). For reference, here is one next to a Belisle 330.

troy I will trade you a original 660 for one of those 440s its brand new never been set! I found its more difficult to find a suitable place to set than you think. I bought two and have never had a chance to use them!

Can anybody set one by hand?I used to set all my conibears by hand. Then I got these beasts.I can't begin to set these without a setter.Actually, after wrestling around with it for way to long I did manage to set one spring, then gave up.

I have a 660. Or it might be 1812 or whatever

You are right not a lot of places it works. But I did catch a 55lbs beaver in a 7 foot deep by 16" wide channel Put it in vertically at the bottom and got it the first night. For 2 years I had put 330 at the bottom and even stacked three on the bottom and never caught a beaver in that channel. The next three nights I caught small beaver in that same set

I have the Sleepy Creek 24" aluminum tongs that I use to set Belisles but they don't open up quite enough to set the RBG 440's - it can be done but is a bit tricky. I'm going to have to make some longer tongs as I am not about to set these by hand either!!

If they’re anything like the other size RBGd I own, I won’t be trying unless it was an emergency. I use my 160s fairly often, and they’re so tricky that I’d probably have an emergency trying to set them by hand. Setting them by hand with swing safeties and springs that go around combined with sensitive triggers is asking for trouble imo

I found that if I lay the trap flat then lay the spring flat that the eyes slide on the circle (jaws) and get close enough for my Bridger aluminum setters to work. They are the longer ones

Maybe I don't know the "Trick" to setting them but when I spend 5 mins. or more chasing the spring all over the trap just to set it, its not worth it. I have the 440 and 220.

Here's what works for me

If the spring is " inside " the trap the setters will not reach

But if you flip the spring to the "outside" of the trap. The trap eye slide in a little and this let's the setters reach the eyes

That tiny beaver clogged up my set, I'm going to case skin it to make easier for someone to make a possibles bag

The hard part was getting the springs outside. The springs were so wide that I had to compress the springs inside the trap to be able to get them outside. After that it was like setting another coni.

I got a chance to see them in action last fall. We had a beaver expedition in Kentucky in an effort to help landowners in a couple of counties. The new owner/manufacturer brought some for us to field test. I was impressed with both their lethality and natural look.

The one I have has been impressive, powerful and as you said, it blends in really well

In the blind set I have it in now I have a small stick with a curve in it just out in front of it and looking at it under water it just blends much more than a square jaw

TONY,
First beaver I trapped on an ADC job did the same thing, upper 40s lbs The land owner called me al excited " you got one , you got one , he's up on the bank and not happy". Only other time I had one not go down the drowning rod was when the slide got caught on a root that I had not noticed

Have now idea why that first one was up on the bank still, as you did a collision with a .22 round and his head ended it for him. He would not jump in when I approached him. He wanted to fight

I bought the company in November of this last year and done a lot of field testing and trial and error. I caught 102 beaver this past season along with several otter and I am very happy with the way they preform. I mostly used the 440 RBG (12") and the 280 RBG (8"). I have also built a H style stabilizer that works with these traps. I will be at the FTA and NTA national shows as well as several state shows this fall if you want to see them in person. You can also call me at the shop @ (812)536-3044.

I met him today at the FTA. Good guy from Indiana. I'm still not quite sure how I'll stabilize them, as I haven't tested them yet, but I bought the 160 and 330 RBG today. They seem intriguing.

I have used the 160s from just about the day they came out. Great traps and I feel they work a lot better In trails then the square BGs. That round shape just Is more natural.

All I ever used were the standard 160 H stands. So what If the cross bar sticks up In the opening a bit.
The only down side is having to chase the springs around to get them set.

Happy they are working for you guys. When i first started using them a few years ago I knew they had there place on my line and have not let me down. Now that i own the business and have to do EXTENSIVE field testing(that's what I tell my wife) I believe that the circle shape helps catch a higher percentage of square shy animals. I also have done a fair amount of research and have come to the conclusion that a round trap closes faster because of the radius and force of the spring. I has suspected this for a while because of the way the animal is found in the trap, but was confirmed when I had a conversation this spring with a very experienced trap maker. I am striving to produce a quality product and provide great service and thank all of you for the support.

As far as stabilizing I have built H stands for these traps and are offering them for sale and I also found out this morning that another stabilizer manufacturer is going to start build a stabilizer for them. It is still in the design faze but hopefully will be available by fall. I will keep everyone posted on how they are progressing.

Will you have these round bodygrips certified under the International trapping standards to make them legal to use in Canada?
