Rural king here has a very large BB for whoever wants to use it. It is always full and I see folks looking at it every time I am in there.

Dicks opened a store here not long ago. I went in it one time and seen right away it was not for me. Worst part was getting out of it. Had to walk through metal detectors, alarms, people giving me the evil eye, and it was like a maze. Had the feeling I wasn't even wanted there.

I have found them to be less than helpful when it comes to hunters in the past . So I guess I saw this as just more of that attitude .

I don't think the folks that say "It wasn't my kind of store" get the point. The point is that they are an outdoor goods store that is taking an anti-gun stance. As outdoors people, we succeed together or we fail separately. That's why I think they should be boycotted. It doesn't matter what percent of their business was guns IF you boycott them for ALL their goods. Forcing them to change their policy would be a win for pro-gun folks, allowing the policy to continue is a loss.

I say "put them in the dirt." Let their anti-gun stance be the final nail in the coffin.

Yes it may well hurt their firearms and ammunition sales and I am sure that their no private ad notes and their move to up the age on gun purchases were business decisions that their upper level management have made be that good or poor decision in the eyes of many. We still live in a free country and they can make those choices if they choose to just as many firms won't take bST milk or GMO fed products etc. Also I would not get too happy about the 18 year old who wants to sue Dick's as if we want to drag the 2nd into many of these knee jerk lawsuits that is where we stand to loose and loose big time. It only takes one case to change the playing field for all for ever.

It is not us here that need to untwist this. There are millions more that are not seeing the issue the same as many of us here do and our unwillingness to understand who they are why they make the choices they do will certainly lead us down the dead end road. It won't be today or tomorrow but in this rapid paced world and getting more rapid it will arrive way before it was scheduled to.

Always looking for an opinion and not a relating of the potential and or real factors of demographics we face with a population anticipated to be around 450 million in 32 years and of which 85-88% of those will live in 25 large metro centers where job growth is occurring and also the unfortunate fact that roughly 80 million of us who represent the oldest citizens and the more conservative policies and principles will have died off by then. So that means out of the 450 million we have now only about 220-225 million are alive today.

I had the radio on in the background yesterday and really wasn’t paying attention to it, but I thought I heard them say Dicks was down 8%. I don’t know if that was earnings or stock. I could also be full of it. I listened at the next market report and they didn’t repeat it. Anyone else hear or read that?

Dicks (DKS) trades on the NY Stock Exchange. You can see their performance on Bigcharts.com. They were trading in the lower 50's a year ago and are now in the lower 30's. Given their trend vs the broader market, Dicks is in serious trouble. I can't separate recent performance from market trends to make any determination regarding the effect of their anti-2nd amendment stance, but Dicks themselves said it hurt their business. https://www.wsj.com/articles/dicks-says-firearms-restrictions-turned-away-some-customers-1520962218

In our modern day business failure climate created during the Bush 11 term it is very favorable for firms to do poorly, file Chapter 11 not have to pay outstanding bills, have a bankruptcy judge workout a plan for the firm to pay debts and stay in business. Who knows this could have been a designed as a good way to either get out or to start over. Also I don't know who the parent company may be if there is a parent company and many times they choose to let some of their affiliates die off for a whole host of reasons such as being able to default on profit sharing, pensions etc. Airlines do this about every decade or so.
