Anyone know if you can use recycled candle wax to wax canine traps? I found a site that sells used /recycled candle wax for $9 10lbs unmixed colors. Once heated will it get rid of human odor from manufacture handling?

I'd be afraid that some of the recycled wax may have had fragrances added.Handling is not an issue.I'd advise using paraffin and shop hard for the best price.

The sponsor of this page Minnesota Trapline Products has sold me 50 or 55 lbs boxes of FLAKED WAX in the past. I like to order it no sooner than early September after the weather has cooled down where I am.

I would buy regular trap wax, I have 30-40$ worth in an old pressure cooker

Dont wax no problems , Like to use wax on my fox traps but don't see any gain on coyote traps.

Don't your traps get rusty with no wax? If mine get about 20% rusty I put a fresh waxed one in

Yes, but I don't let it bother me.

I figured the fresh rust if too much would give off the strong rust odor

No I paint 5 or even 6 catches and still working fast dry paint primer have never looked back the colder it gets the less they care about scent,I have caught a few and tried about everything and this works for me if you need to repaint or touch up I just do it and let it air a day or two .have even put them in the oven on low for a few hours .

The thing with wax for me was first wax with new wax always worked the best ,Wax is a sponge for scent and contaminate your wax and your traps all have it . then there is getting it off (I mean all off) before waxing for next year .Not condemning wax just don't have the need.

I might try that, if I keep my modified #3 Bridgers, I'm thinking of getting some k-9 extreme

So a person should remove any loose rust before painting?

I waxed for years and years. Started painting two years ago and now that is all I do. A good washing with the power washer, set the trap, paint and hang out to dry for a day or week or what ever. Then set off and store away. Ten times easier and I see no difference except that it holds up better than wax and that is good!!1
