Yea, was in one when I was up for my apprenticeship for Journeyman Steel Detailer and welder.
Was a nervous giant LOL, however it went very well, why you want to be one, what makes you qualified to be one, your drive, don't fidget, don't have your hands all over, don't look around, look right at them, think your answer, don't spout off something just to answer. Don't offer unless they ask, almost like talking to a LEO now day's.
After all that it was only to see how comfortable you were with others above ya for taking instruction, of course mine was done in 1972 and I finished it in 1976. Might be way more different now days.
One of the best decisions I ever made on my own, has paid me very well through the years, was sometimes rough through the program due to mostly my age and wanting to hunt all the time, women got in the way a bit to !!
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

It's a job interview... Treat it as such. The committee wants a feel for your overall intelligence and demeanor.
It's not a joke either. My class started first year with 23 or 24. When we finished 5th year there were 11.
And like most everything else, what you get out of your apprenticeship depends on what you put in.
Good luck. Hope you do well!
Mike

Be truthful and strong Think of some tough obstacles you've had to overcome. There will likely be a question that will ask about it Confidence in why you are there will go a long way. I'm going to assume this is for the local?

All good advice. I did a five year appreciateship with the pipefitter union for hvac . That was almost 20 years ago now . It has been very good to me .Somehow squeeze in a comment about enjoying the thought of being part of a Brotherhood. The old timers are big on that . Good luck young man .

Mike X2 Be straight forward and don’t second guess yourself, remember the panel is looking for members that they can feel confident with your ability to safely do the job when they are on the other end of your work....I did my electrical apprenticeship many years ago not with the union though, and my coworkers didn’t play around with who they wanted on their team.... Like mike said you get out of it what you put into it...Bending conduit and pulling wire all day every day sucks, but that’s what some electricians end up doing if you slack off... Awesome job on passing the first step, wish you well on the next, and after you pass that step, best of luck on becoming an union electrician...great job....

I have no input but im a high school senior and planning on getting an electrical apprenticeship right out of high school, excited because ot pays great just to learn and it will be a very good career but nervous for the steep learning curve but i think it will be fun after several years when experience is gained and i think the flexablility of hours and the pay will work really well with hobbies. The two places ive looked at 1 started at 13.50 and the other at 18 bucks an hour just to learn, then once you pass journeymens after 4 years hopefully you earn way more, thats some serious money! Electricians are always in demand. If one is willing to tramp a little he/she will never starve. Join the brotherhood and you can't go wrong Good luck

You will learn the basic principles of electric in the classroom but will gain most of your knowledge in the field. I have been at it for 30yrs now and I still have not seen it all, a lot but still get a surprise every now and again. Amen. A guy has to sit and learn about some "boring" stuff in the classroom. A lot of it is theory and gets a little tedious... Soak it up. As much as you can learn. Learning the principles of how electricity works and behaves is key to troubleshooting. Learn and understand all you can. More skills mean more money. Mike
