Mike,
Whenever you can trace anything from the DAR - SAR- as you stated earlier- thats a surefire way of proof.
My grandmother did amazing research in her travels all over the world, and into her homeland especially , Ireland. I was fortunate indeed to be able to be included in her sharing of those travels .
I understand the DAR registry.
For myself, I embrace being alive on this earth ,and being human.
For us all , in enjoying life and breath, and in the amazing circumstance , we find the love of our life, for myself, that is the prime directive.
Sláinte ...

Then there's the whole "modern" (post 1688) of what is "Irish". Most of the people on the island were (are) Catholic and can trace their roots back earlier than 1688 when the English took control of Ireland. Then there are the Protestant Scots that the English brought over and/or came over on their on and are mostly in the 6 ne counties that stayed with the UK when the Republic of Ireland achieved independence in 1922. We all know what a flashpoint "Northern Ireland" has been in the past, although it appears that the Protestants and Catholics there are getting along with each other now.
Both sets of people had people who immigrated to the U.S. and Canada
I'm a quarter Scot (maternal grandmother who as a Nova Scotian Fraser) but don't think they came through Ireland first. But the genealogy on that side is pretty murky so who knows for sure. I spent a few hours in the archive in Halifax one day trying to find out the name of my maternal great-grandmother but gave up after finding 9 "Daniel Frasers" getting married in that county during the years my mom thought her grandparents were married. My mom had very little to go on because her mother had died when she was 7 and my non-Sccot Mass. Yankee grandfather didn't have much for information about his wife's family. Maybe on purpose...

Cork Never was sure if this is an actual family name or the city we came from. Some say if children showed showed up in the U.S. with no info on their name they were named for the city the boat left Ireland from.

My mom’s maiden name was Gallagher. She came from Belfast Northern Ireland. They were militantly Irish Catholic. Lots of IRA members. One of my grandmother’s brothers died in a British prison. Lots of stories I heard as a kid I wouldn’t repeat on a public forum. I have one I can. My aunt who died around 3 years ago went to the doctor with sinus trouble. They x-rayed her head and found a bullet. She didn’t remember getting shot. Apparently her mother smuggled arms for the IRA and something went wrong. They were caught up in a crossfire. She obviously survived but no one ever mentioned it to her.
My grandfathers family did a bit of back and forth between Ireland and the Anaconda, Montana area. My grandpa was actually born in Anaconda but mostly raised in Ireland.
