Well, they finally were able to bring him partially out of the medically induced coma to see if he started fighting the trachea tube and suction lines as he did the previous days. He had another surgery yesterday to remove his left ear as they were unable to restore blood flow to it. They also wired all the jawbone fractures back together and placed a feeding tube and nasolaryngeal tube in. He wrote a note to his mother that he wanted to go home as he doesn't remember the crash. He also wanted to know if he hurt anyone else in the crash but they told him no, which was a smart thing at this point. The permanent brain damage the neurosurgeon and neurologist told the family to expect would be in the frontal lobe, since he wrote the note about if he hurt anyone else they were excited that he can reason and utilize critical thinking which is a complex thought process that occurs in the frontal lobe.
The toxicology screen was negative and the State trooper interviewed the family Wednesday, I was praying he hadn't been drinking and the toxicology screen was revealed that he had not been nor were there any other substances on board that would have contributed to the crash. He is in surgery again right now to see if they have or can restore adequate blood flow to his right hand and arm below the elbow. They had to amputate the index finger, middle finger and ring finger due to them being mangled so badly. The man he hit head on had undergone 5-6 surgeries to repair a horribly crushed pelvis, pin the femur at the sub trochanteric area on both hips. I believe he has six fractured vertebrae but I don't know at what levels although they have done surgeries on those and reattached his left bicep which was cut in two. They started a go fund me page for this man and his family as he is the sole bread winner and has two young daughters and his wife stays home with the girls.
Both of them have a long way to go but the two families are getting along and they each pray daily together with the two injured family members.
As much of this as I have seen in my 29 years as a Police Officer I didn't think this would effect me as bad as it has. I guess it is a bit to close to home and two lives have been dramatically altered because my nephew fell asleep while driving. His phone was checked by our forensic computer lab and he wasn't texting which was another thing I was worried about. .
Thanks for all of the prayers for both families.

Prayers for both families. As a professional driver I see way more than I care to.

Glad he is hanging in there and he wasn't under the influence.
I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.
