Interesting !! My maternal grandmother was an Orr. My paternal grandfather was an Either. They couldn't figure out what to name me so they gave me 2 names ! Either/Orr

It's funny, my whole life every once in awhile when I would tell someone my last name (Sobieralski), they ask "So you're Polish?" and for years I've always replied "No, it's a nice Irish name!". This past Christmas my daughter bought me a MyHeritage DNA kit for fun. Now I've always been told that my paternal great grandparents both came from Poland (and I still have relatives there) and that my maternal great grandparents came from Germany and Switzerland. So....I get the results back last week...I'm 44.3% Balkan, 35.3% English, 11.6% Irish, Scottish and Welsh, 4% East European (which includes Poland, 3.9% Finnish and 0.9% Ashkenazi Jewish. To think that I'm almost 3 times more Irish than I am Polish was a bit humorous to say the least! I still celebrate my Polish heritage but now I can enjoy my Guinness with a little bit more gusto! Slainte!

Doing the DNA is very interesting. Always thought we were mostly Dutch.

I had mine done. I turned out 83% British. The inclusion of British is quite large though.

It starts with the English/Irish islands. Coastal parts of Spain, France, Holland, Belgium, and the Iberian Peninsula(Norway, Finland etc.).

If you consider the influx of the Vikings and other countries over the centuries, its no wonder its a GUESS!

Gaelic for it is Mac Cumhaill.
It is said that old Fion built the Giants Causeway from Éire to Scotland as means to escape a jealous husband. I know lots of his descendants/name bearers have had similar needs.
