Well after about a week of trial and error on beavers, I finally caught my first animal as an adult in a trap. As a kid between the ages of 6 and 12 I used to catch coons and skunks on my grandpa's duck club in live traps and then dispatch them, but this is the first animal I have caught since I got my license a week ago. It was a nice belated 30th birthday gift to myself... a beaver in my Belisle 280. I checked my first 330 and it was unsprung. My second trap, a 280 was also unsprung. But my third (which I probably put the most work into, making sure the beaver could only go through my trap) was in a beaver run and had a nice behind the head catch in the 280. I am stoked. Now to skin and flesh the sucker and save the meat for pot roast. I have a question, can I skin and flesh it and then put the hide in the freezer until I'm ready to stretch and dry it?
