Hi Guys,

If I add SB to fresh ground bait, do i still need to allow time for it to off gas after I add my other ingredients? This is my first shot at making my own bait so excuse my ignorance.

Thanks

Yes, I would wait about a month. I don't fill the jars up even then. I made the mistake of putting in jars after about a week and that made a pretty good mess.

What John says.^^^ It varies as to how long it takes for a preservative to kick in to a product. Temperatures and stirring play the biggest role. If it is cooler it may take longer depending upon where the material is kept.Cold slows every thing down to a degree.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I’ll be sure not to bottle anything for a bit. Don’t want a rotten meat explosion.

ignorance is just a "lack of knowledge" if looked up.....AND I HAVE PLENTY..so don't worry about it kimble1 !!

it is cured through education, thru asking questions !!!!!!!

This time of year I put meat in my warm box,,,,,,,a dead freezer with a light bulb to add a lil warmth....and an indoor/outdoor thermometer run BACKWARDS, so the sensor on the lil wire goes INTO the box/freezer so I can see the temp WITHOUT OPENING THE DOOR AND LETTING THE HEAT OUT.

I use the same set up on my well house in the winter!...when I have to run a lil heater inside.

An inexpensive heating pad that can be purchased at most drug stores and Wal-Mart will serve nicely for a warming agent wrapped around a container to speed up an artificial heat induced environment. Just place the batch in a bucket to contain and sustain the heat.

You can also insulate the bucket with insulation wrap of some sort to help contain the heat better. Keep the container off of concrete as it will kill a lot of heat radiation and negate much of the thermal properties of what you are trying to achieve.

The heating pads usually have a couple of temperature settings on them to allow you some freedom to determine your desired setting. Just some food for thought.

That is where the experimentation comes into play. The amounts and what is better to use is the key. It takes a long time to work your way thru the many step phases when dabbling with lure and bait making. A continual learning process. I had a lifetime in my work but it has been a great joy and challenge along the way.

This is where following THE MEMO comes in......I guess you missed it when posted before.

Investing in any and all lure/bait making books.....for FREE !....how?...get multiple supplier catalogs...circle your needs/wants...give catalogs to loved ones that buy your Birthday, Anniversary, Christmas, Labor Day gifts......asking them to buy circled items for your gifts.....so their money is WELL SPENT and not wasted on some sweater that would just hang in the closet.

Works great for our family.........I get the Bed Bath and Beyond and Belks catalogs from my wife and she gets Southeaster Outdoor Supplies, Cumberlands, MTP, Sterling Fur, etc.

I get oils, urine and glands for gifts !!!!!!

Hope this helps

Thanks guys. I’ve looked at a lot of places and can’t seem to find the short wide bottles like you use Bob. I’ll check out southeastern John.

Qorpak / a part of Berlin Packaging is where we buy our bulk bottles. Freud Packaging company has a wide variety of bottle sizes and types as well.
