Found a pheasant wing today under a sage brush. it was very fresh kill looked like the wing bones were almost cleaned up. I couldn't find and tracks that might have been there. So you think it was birds of prey or mink or weasel?

I think the snow rules out crawfish. smile

Seriously though, if there's no tracks, a bird likely tried to carry it off and dropped it. What killed it in the first place is anybodies guess. It could of died of natural causes or been trapped under snow and died, I've seen that here before.

Bird of prey is my guess... find similar grouse and chukar kills here in Idaho with no tracks in the snow.

Ya I think so to bird of prey been hard on them this year. I don't often find a wing but have seen many kills with just feathers.

Bobcats are real good at just leaving a pile of feathers.

The thing is I have found many kill spots with a lot of snow disturbance but just can't pick up a good track. The snow is hard crusted at time when very soft and melts some so very hard to get a good idea what has been getting a lot of them. It might be a combination of birds and critters for sure.
