Anyone have one? I'm thinking of getting a bigger boat, and looked at some today. I need a big boat for the rivers, and am thinking of moving up to a Procat 240! I'm looking for info on pros, and cons. I don't know anyone with this model, and I would like to know if a 200 hp is enough for a boat of this size. I will be on the Missouri river, Mississippi river, and some of our bigger resevoirs, chasing catfish.

They are one of the better production boats. You can't go wrong with one. I assume you're shopping at Cooks? I would give you one other option before deciding on the Sea Ark. Take a trip over to Quillers Boats in Hardin ILL. Its right across the river from Elsberry. They sell a boat made by Excel. Take a look at it. Excell Catfish boat . Best riding aluminum boat I've ridden it. I have a 20' Express with a 115 Yamaha which I personally think rides better than the Sea Ark, but if I bought a new one tomorrow it would be the Excell. The way the hull is designed the bow will not ride up on you at 1/4 throttle. That is nice for running the river, especially at night. have fun! Ol'dad edit: Whatever you decide on, make sure it's powered by a yamaha! Drew is the chief mechanic at Cook's. His advice is on engines is sound.

Thanks for the replies. I may look for quite some time before I jump in. I look hard and buy slow. I have looked at excells also, and they are very good boats. My current boat is bad when it comes to bow rise at low throttle, and that is a royal PITA while chasing a jug, being towed by a catfish. The big fish are good at hide and seek under the boat. My wife knew this day was coming, and she's kinda freaking out right now, but she knew all along, that I was buying my dream boat right before I retire. I told her I'd work a lil longer if need be, which seemed to lower her hackles a little. She has watched me run my 18-60 for 22 years now, so she knows it's time. Oh yeah, it is time.

And yes Ol' Dad, I was at cooks this afternoon. I may ride down to Donophin also, as I have heard that they are cheaper. Local service does mean a lot to me though. I am in warrenton, so cooks is close!

When I stopped by the boat store, my wife went into complete red flag warning mode. I will wait until I get my shed built, as a bigger boat will not fit in my garage, but I could always turn it sideways. I've had my eye on a procat 240, for a while now, but they are proud of them.

If you're no deadset on buying new, there have been a few procat 240's floating around on craigslist. The problem is that most of them were financed over 10 years and they still owe close to what a new one costs. lol

Wife has been to some boat places with me now. She wants me to get a bass boat, but she knows I don't want a bass boat, and will not get one! Excel is coming out with a new boat any time, but nobody near me has one yet. I may have to go south to look at one. Its a 23' with a 102" beam. I won't order a boat till fall or winter, so I have time! I want a boat that will last a long time, and prefer buying local, for future service work that may be needed.

I don't blame ya on the bass boat. Had a Ranger myself. It was fun, but wasn't something to take on the rivers and do some cat fishing or nothing from. My wife said mine was too fast. After the dog flew off the back end of it, I sold it. Don't regret it a bit. Grandma was right, wasn't nothing but a hole in lake I kept throwing money into. I think you got the right idea. Buy what YOU want and know will fill your needs. Good luck! Wanna see pics when you get it!

I hear ya. But it's never too late.. Also, i am hoping some changes come in the model year change. But if not, I will try to get what I want from the manufacturer. I don't want to deal with a custom builder, due to past issues with friends! One thing I am having a hard time finding out, is performance with a yamaha 200 hp inline 4 cylinder. The procat gains 600 lbs with the rear livewell full, and with 4 people, it could be slow to get on plain. I am not a speed freak, but I will not be happy with an under powered boat. The good thing is, this time around, I can get what I want, and don't have to skimp to get by. I don't really want a complete fuel eater either. The way I fish, fuel usage should not be a big issue, but I want the power when I need it.
