Any back make it?

Any count?

High or low yield?

Thoughts on base for bait also? Unlimited supply here, trying to decide what to do.

Thanks in advance.

I can't answer much for you but I remember watching a video by Coon Creek Outdoors on YouTube where he made fish oil out of buffalo carp. Seemed like he got a lot of oil.

Just how much oil do you need and what is the trouble worth to you. I've tried to make fish oil three or four times over the years and my opinion is just buy some. You are much better off making lure and bait instead of fish oil in my opinion. An easy and effective option is to put some vegetable oil in a blender and put a can or two of sardines in and blend it up good.

However, I think making fish oil is one of those things that you should go ahead and try just to see what a stinking mess and problem it can be. In my case it took more than one time. LOL

If you don't like flies and the downwind stink I wouldn't suggest it. Everyone should do it a time or two just to experience the moment.

I have several trillion flies that have to be dealt with every spring and summer to keep the maggot infection from ruining to much product. The fly has the most acute sense of smell I have found in most all living things. They come from far and wide to visit here.

Pressed fish oil is inferior when making bait or lure. I don't want to know what sardines pureed in vegetable oil smell like after a week. Bite the bullet and buy good oil if it will be a lure or bait ingredient and you cant figure out how or don't want to fool with making/acquiring the good stuff.

Seth those flies have quite an odor after thousands of them are lying around the buckets over a few weeks. A very musky odor of sorts they have in that concentration.

I would rather stay with using what is in the buckets instead. I know that is good stuff.

Several years ago a fellow from Slaughters,KY.,sent me some sun rendered cat fish oil. This stuff was a brownish, thick liquid. This cat fish oil did not have a rank or rotten smell. In Russ Carmen,s book,he had a very low opinion of fish oil made from carp.Grawes lures has a catfish oil for sale, but that is all I know about that product.I think this summer I going to make some catfish oil to see if I have the touch.

I own down south trappers lure company, but still have a lot to learn about a lot of stuff in the industry.

I’ve got the land and resources to produce fish oils. And the demand to sell it. Just have not worked with buffalo producing oil. . I prefer doin the homework before the truck loads start dumbing fish at the house. I’ve experimented with billy Dorris buffalo oil, and had positive results (although I’m not one to use fish oils much). My question is more aimed towards the yield..... which I would assume would be high, dealing with my experience pickling buffalo for bait, seems the fat content is higher than most fish we have here( no trout, spoonbills are protected, and the catfish go to other markets.).

Thanks for the reply.

It won’t be made out of 5 galllon buckets. I have a bunch of 330 gallon caged plastic containers, with hinged tops that I can seal with a breather installed.
Same systems I’m using for bto, and snakes. ( I’m getting 300 tails per container ground up, doesn’t even feel a quarter up,, but I love them.)

I make it, takes a lot of product to make. Keep pulling it off as it will keep producing every time you pull it off the top.
