I am wondering if anyone has used the double stake swivel with that built in swivel attachment(not j-hook), not the ones from sleepy creek(stop sign looking ends) but the ones with the round ends and built in swivel? Any trouble with these? Thanks

Yes, after double staking and pulling and moving traps multiple times, offer a year or more, they start to crack in the middle where the swivel is attached. I chain stake now, and no problems. Or, use the Chestnut rings.

I've used them for years (if it's the same ones) and never had one crack....However, I/ve always pulled on the rebar itself and not the butterfly part. These are the ones with a built in swivel, a 45 degree piece of metal that spins around on a rivet. These also have the rounded ends, not the flat sided ends. It is made by berkshire, but not the one with the j-hook

Yes I am asking because that rivet that holds the swivel looks a little "iffy"

I like the JC Conner chestnuts much better for double staking.

I take 2 of the berkshire style double stake swivels with the J-Hook and weld the bodies together, then insert the J-Hook...That way you get much better swiveling action than with the chestnut rings, and the double thickness makes them incredibly strong, warding off stress fractures...Life time swivel when modified in this manner.

Been using them since 1980s with 0 problems. Pull the rebar not the butterfly when pulling. Never had one fail. Treat the traps well in off-season and they last too. Just about every land trap I own has butterflies on them but some have two welded lap links instead, those I got on a trade and never changed them out. Jim

I use the one with a j hook in the center. not sure how many years it takes to wear one out. steel is pretty soft. have bent then straightened back out many of them with no problems. I'm sure eventually they will need replaced but if you get 20 years use out of a 50 cent tool I think its a good buy

I have used the sleepy creek brand and these are close to those(peen on SC is a little wider) Going to do more testing on them first, but from what i did test them with, they worked. (The test was hooking one side of the butterfly to a tree, then i hooked swivel to a 7' chain, hooked chain end to a heavy weight. Then i threw the weight hard so it jerked hard on the chain and swivel. Did this several times with no sign of breakage). I think these would hold a heavy coyote on a two foot chain with a 36 hr check.

x2, JC Conner's Chestnuts are way better and alot more user freindly. Drive 1 stake straight down and one at a 45 if needed. No binding, no bending, no worries.

Oh I don't know about them being junk at all...If you weld 2 of the swivel bodies together you have a pretty much indestructible unit with a swiveling, pivot action that is superior to the chestnut rings IMO...I also like the angle of the driven stakes that the berkshire design imparts, or pretty much demands.... That pre-determined angle holds better than a stake straight down, and one at an angle IMO....I'm referring to the berkshire style double stake swivel with a J- hook protruding out the top, not the Sleepy Creek, or Butterfly style.

I have the type that has the J hook placed In the center of the double staking system.
But I have mine made out of a thicker material and with larger stake holes. So far I have never had one fail.
