Do you like to set your body grip traps deep for otter?
This year I was trapping in a narrow but deep creek. I had a 330 set deep and got my otter. I had it set low in the water because we had a lot of ice this winter. When the ice melted, I left the trap deep, put some dive stick material above it, and in this case it worked well.

I use dive sticks even if the water only comes up to the rivets of the trap! if nothing else it serves as camo and guiding! You will be surprised at how many otters you can catch in just a few inches of water!

Believe it was Kirk De I saw on a video/show that suggested several dive poles/sticks above otter sets. This insures the otter dives to the bottom of the run instead of just bobbing under a single dive pole.

Here in Ohio our 330s must be completely submerged in water. Sometimes it’s tough to find the perfect spot, but I try to find a pinch point in a creek that is deep enough to hold a conibear. I’m not a really experienced otter trapper, but I always put dive sticks cause we really have no choice lol.

I have caught otter in 4 feet of water with the bodygrip on bottom and a couple dive poles and a bit of brush on the surface. When they dive to avoid an obstruction they go to the bottom like a beaver.
In a lot of places you don't even need a dive pole, feel for the groove in the deepest part of a ditch or stream with a pole, and set there on bottom.I make those sets occasionally in open water for trap shy beaver.

The lions share of the otter I catch are in less than a foot of water.

When I set deep channels or runs the trap goes on the bottom with blocking over the trap. I have caught some in deep water with just a dive stick but I tend to block most of the water over the trap.

If you can, put a few sticks on tip of the water 4 or 5 feet before and after the trap. Otter will dive down and swim through the deepest part of the channel. Make that top look brushy.
