Up at the farm there's a nice guy who lives on the other side of the valley and I work on his guns every year. His brother, in his late 80's, lives in Malta and comes back to visit once or twice a year. Like so many Basques, he went to America to run sheep. Most ended up in southern California or Nevada but a good number went to Wyoming, southern Idaho and Montana. After 50 years in the states his English is still heavy with accent. Tomorrow Gabriel and his brother are coming to my place for some gun cleaning and a good cup of coffee. I always tell Gabriel that the cleaning is free, (doesn't take long to clean his Benelli), but his brother shoots an old A-5 so I know he'll bring some nice red wine for my wife.

I still remember meeting Gabriel's brother 3 years ago when his gun wasn't working during pigeon season here. I asked him where he was from in Montana and he told me, "...a little town, you wouldn't know it...". I smiled and said try me. He said Malta. I've been to Malta once, but all my family is from Montana so we connected the dots after that.

Just thought I'd share.

Pete

Have a cousin that lives there, and I worked there for a few days last summer on a small job. Neat little town, met some of the locals the few nights that we spent there..
