I do not know if this is new or not but yesterday on the way home from church I heard a radio add calling to ban snares, at the end it said: "make Minnesotan's proud of our state again, lets ban snares!" Is this something they run every year or is it new?

The add was full of misinformation and lies, of course, it said your dog could be 3 feet away from you and dying in a snare and you wouldn't know it was happening. They didn't even bring up that snares are illegal on all public lands, so I am guessing the people behind this push has lost dogs to snares because they were trespassing on private property that was legally set with snares. So they, yet again, want to ban something because they were irresponsibly breaking the law and it cost their dog's life so they want to punish someone for their stupidity!

Are you sure? the way I read the regulations it says private land only with permission. What kind of public lands can you snare on up there?

Most is county and state land. It is referred to as the forest zone. Page 50 in last year's regs

Ok, I missed the forest zone line, due to being on a different page, sorry. I would/am still angry because they are asking the population center to ban something that has no effect on the city folks down here. ok I am not thinking clearly when I get angry, a lot of city folks own cabins and drive to hunt up there, still doesn't make it right!

The radio adds are a new thing. The push to ban snares has been on going for a few years

With most commonly used snares, you would have plenty of time to get your dog out, unlike 220 and larger conibers. Dogs don't tend to fight a snare like a coyote or fox. The army's will say anything to reach there goal

You need to read that again.....
Snaring zones
• In the forest zone, snares are allowed on public land and on private land with
permission of the landowner.

• In the farmland zone snares are allowed from October 28 - March 31 only on
private land with permission from the landowner. They may not be set on public
lands, road rights-of-way or in fence lines along road rights-of-way. Snares may
not otherwise be used in the farmland zone.

It is being aired on 96.5 and 97.5 FM radio in Rochester, They have been running for about two weeks now. Several of us have contacted the radio stations and providing feedback in regard to the actual use of snares. The information in the ads is false and misleading

I imagine the antis know snares are a very effective wolf capture device and are trying to be preemptive in their use on wolves.

The adds are new this spring, been out a few weeks now. They are well funded by at least a couple animal rights groups. The word on the street is the leader of a wolf group is retiring and wants to leave a legacy.

I heard it on 92 KQRS. I figured they try to ban snares often enough but I had never heard an add on the radio about it before. I guess it makes sense if they fear the feds will delist the wolves but can try to ban an effective management tool for them before it is done.

I think this got started by the story of a wolf that got a snare around it's muzzel and broke free. Wondered around for a few days til it was put down within blocks of a school in Duluth. I figured some anti's would use it to their advantage.
