Last ranch I worked on here in Montana the foreman had done that. He was really happy with his implants. Sorry, I don't know more other then he wished he would have done it sooner.

A friend of mine went to Belize to have several root canals and crowns put in. He had an estimate from a local dentist and says he got the same work done there for 23% of the local estimate. He was very happy with the work and saved thousands.

I, on the other hand went to Ecuador to have some root canals and crowns and although I saved a lot of money the work was very poor using old techniques and have had continued trouble with them.

Look for dentists that have studied abroad and have more recent orthodontic degrees would be my recommendation.

I have no personal experience but I did some trapping for the fellow who operates the following website and published the book, Patient Beyond Borders.

https://patientsbeyondborders.com/

I had no idea that this was as big a business as it is.

My mom got an implant in Chile and it was pretty good. Only a couple hundred dollars.

Older gentlemen from neighboring town, that winters in McAllen Tx, nearly passed away last summer due to dental procedure he had done in Mexico to save money. Well the "surgeon" neglected to use stainless screws and the ones he used literally disintegrated in his jaw bones causing major infections. I'd be very leary of "cheap" surgery.

As a dental professional, i say dont do it. We repair so much crappy dental work for people who tried to save a few bucks.

I will gladly feast on those who would subdue me.

So, would the travel to and from and the lodging and meals be included in that 23% cost? What about follow up visits?

I'd want some sure fire references, from people that I could look at, and I'm in need of some work right now.

I wouldn't do it. Fair warning, I graduate next month with my dental degree so I'm not exactly unbiased. I have been to Ecuador on dental mission trips and I can say we fixed a lot of poorly done dentistry. There are bad eggs in every profession in every place you go though. There are probably great dentists in Mexico. There are bad dentists in the US. The difference is if things go wrong here in the US you are protected. The state boards of dentistry keep things regulated and make sure the bad dentists are put out of business. If an implant doesn't go well here the dentist will take care of you within reason. If you're smoking and drinking all the time while the implant is trying to heal then that's kind of on you. But if you do your part and something goes wrong, no problem, the dentist will usually make it right. Across the border they can do whatever they want. They might be inclined to take care of you because they don't want bad reviews. Or they might not care and there's nothing you can do about it. Also, implants vary in the quality of material. Are you getting the highest quality or the cheapest in Mexico? There's no way to tell. I wouldn't mess around with something irreversible like implants. Dentures I'd be a bit more lenient on because they're not fixed in your mouth. Unless you're talking about the dentures that attach to implants (which is a great option for anyone looking to get dentures).

Best of luck with whatever you decide. If I can answer any questions I'd be happy to. Just send a message.

- Jonathan

I've known several people who would go to Juarez, Mexico for dental. The dental clinics right at the boarder in Juarez are good and much cheaper than the US. Just don't be in Juarez when the sun sets. I have a friend in Juarez and can get you reputable dentists there. Rx's are cheap there too.

One lady I worked with had a bunch of crowns done and paid about 75% less.

Get a room in El Paso do some yote calling in NM 10 minutes away.

I had porcelain crowns put on all my teeth about 8 yrs.ago. the dentist did root canals on all my teeth before doing the the crowns. I have been very happy with the quality of the work. Bulletbox on here recommended the dentist to me. The dentist is across the Rio Grand from Del Rio, Tx. Total cost of dental work was $8900.00. Considerably less than half what it would have cost on the Texas side. If interested pm me and I will give you name and number for dentist. There is a father, daughter, and son that all work out of same office.

My brother got his wisdom teeth pulled by a dentist in Piedras Negras. My dad suffered from gingivitis and eventually lost a lot of his teeth. He went to the same dentist to get implants and false teeth. They look good and my Dad was very happy with the experience. Mexican dentist was educated here in the States and spoke English just fine.

This was back in the early and mid 2000's though when it was a little safer to go down there and shop, mingle, and such. We used to load up by the truck load in highschool during the 90's and head to Acuna. No way, not now. Times have changed. Chancey

I would look into a State University Dental School in your State, to get that work done. Cheaper than a regular Dentist, and still in the USA.
