This was my first year trapping and the first animal I caught other than some nuisance skunks was a 29.6lb coon. I was wondering if this is pretty big for north central wisconsin?

I did not weigh the yote but it was the same size if not a little lighter. It was just a small female.

Yup, coons aren't normally bigger than coyotes.

I don't think they grow coons that big down here. I've never seen one that size here.

Southern coon are much smaller than those in the more northern states--same thing with deer.
Animals in the north ,must be larger to survive.
Living in Minnesota,I have taken many coon over 30 pounds, when I trapped in Missippi, the adult coon averaged aroun 8 or 9 pounds, thats a youngsters weight in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
Nikolas, your coon is a big one.Keep at it and you will catch some larger than that.Wisconsin coon grow big.
