It really about ruined the horse trading market when the Federals closed the killer plant in St Louis several years ago. wasn't just that , in a ridiculous number of states they have no kill on horses , my Aunt and uncle owned a stable for many years unfortunately through the housing bubble crash. so they got permanent residents when people walked away and stopped paying their stable bill. they had to keep feeding the Horses they could put a lean on the animal and try and sell it at some point but everyone had excess horses , it wasn't even legal to put them down without a vet signing off on it and charging you to do it. even if in states that don't restrict the sale of horse for meat , they ban the transport of horse for meat.

I horse trade snow plowing an adjacent landowners driveway each winter in exchange for cutting firewood out of his hardwoods. This year it was 4 plows and I pull 3-4 cord out a winter.
My next isn't really a horse trade but each spring I plant 20-25 evergreen's on another landowners property in exchange for deer hunting his 120ac of mixed woods / farmland that butt's up to another 80ac of land locked "open" MFL (managed forest land).
Both fellas are happy and I think that is what makes it work for all involved.

Forever in debt to my Father who introduced me to trapping. May I be half the man he was.

My son just made the best trade I've ever heard of! He traded a Marlin 30-30 straight across for an older top eject 375 Winchester big bore in mint condition! His 30-30 was one of the Remington versions too! Well that lucky little... lol You should have had him buy you a lottery ticket too!

I horse trade with a few people.
My Optometrist and I have exchanged services for 25 years. He does trade outs for both myself and my wife.
My Chiropractor does a trade with myself, my wife, and my s-i-l.
I also have traded plumbing and electrical.
I used to have a sweet deal with some deer hunting land. The guy loved making firewood but was scared to drop trees. Every fall I would drop 6-8 large oaks and 16" the logs. In return we had the run of a 240 acre mostly wooded farm that was littered with deer. I have been working on my Dentist but he wont bite (yes it was a pun)
I have a small chipper and dump trailer and full access to all equipment from work if needed.

I used to trade taxidermy for various stuff......mostly delivered firewood, which I did on numerous occasions. I even traded a re-roof of part of my house for a medium sized chinook mount. I would love some lad to come along with a pile of firewood he wanted to trade for assorted dead things I have hanging on the wall. Mounted critters I have in abundance, firewood....not so much!
