Every movie has it's unrealistic moments. I just try to enjoy the ones with the fewest... I enjoyed Wind River. Wyoming... My kind of country right there... Dead of winter.

The movie was great. I watched it a couple times. It is based on true events . I told a friend about it , he really liked it too. I would recommend it for sure. Like said earlier, nice way to start the movie out, on a Yote hunt.

I don't know if the movie is based on one actual event or is just a representation of common occurrences on reservations.

A family member of mine got involved with a Shoshone gal and moved out to the WR reservation. This family member wasn't a model citizen and had spent time in prison and had seen some of the rougher side of life... I don't think he made it a month on the rez before he moved back to town.

It's not a nice place.

Mike

You hit it on the head Mike.....According to Wikipedia.....

According to Sheridan (the Director), the opening "inspired by true events" card[6] was a reference to the "thousands of actual stories just like it" involving sexual assault of women on reservations, his primary motivation for writing the film.[7]

Happy trapping! ScottW

As far as the USFW having no authority on the reservation, If I remember the agent in the movies wasn’t doing any law enforcement work but wasn’t he hunting predators as favor to the reservation. He knew the members of the reservation since his ex-wife was a Native American and he had a daughter to her that was also murdered a few years prior.

I've hunted in cold weather for almost 40 years, been gasping for air because of exertion chasing coyote and fox, never once even got a sore throat from cold air, one stalk I did During -58 wind chill.
Bare foot, no long johns, I doubt I would have made it six miles like that poor girl did, I highly doubt the frozen lung thing, more likely exposier, being out in too cold of temperature, killed her imo
