Waiting patiently for our spring geese hunting season. Just wondering how the migration is looking this year and how far north they’ve made it? My family trip is planned for May 4-12.

I can tell you they are still driving on Devils Lake and using extensions to get through the ice, if that helps... laugh

They AIN'T at Devils Lake yet.

This will be the 3rd weekend in a row we've cancelled our Nodak snow goose hunt, and we're already cancelled out of next weekend too. Like to hunt northern Nodak, and they probably won't be there until at least next weekend. First trip to Nodak is now the weekend of the 27th, and the second trip the weekend of MAY 5th.

Just to put that in context, the latest we've ever hunted North Dakota is the 23rd of April.

Craziest, latest spring we've ever seen around here.

I can say with some confidence, they won't be up to you any time soon.

First geese just starting to be seen and some are out trying to draw "first blood". Still freezing pretty good at nights so things just starting.

I just drove down into my old stomping grounds south of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers where most years the geese are thick as thieves. The few geese I did see were gathering groceries and building nests. Down along the Big Horn river the geese were dyeing left and right because of deep snow and they couldn't get to the spilled grain and sugar beets and volunteer wheat .
I hope your spring hunt goes well !
Allan

2 years ago we caught 3 days of main run migrating. That was between may 9-12. Last year we hit it good from may 5-13. Im sure well get our fill but Im a bit of a geese hunting nut and I just like hearing the updates. Benelli is cleaned and Ive got 24 boxes of 12, 20, and 410 ready to go. Doubt it if ill need that much but id rather have too much than not enough. I mostly let the kids shoot these days. I just shoot enough to always have one in my hands for plucking. we are melting now though so they will be here sooner or later. Thanks for the updates fellers.
