They will travel as far as necessary to find enough water to submerge themselves.

Generally beavers are not a big fan of fluctuating water levels. Given that, I would suspect that tidal areas are not their first choice for establishing a permanent home. Not to say that a 2 year old which has had its butt bit up all over the county woundn't end up there, but I do not find it to be common around here, and we have lots of tidal areas.

That makes a lot of sense. I haven’t checked any other areas close to this location, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the entire area is full of Beavers

Ooh ooh, I know this!

I think. I don't have experience in many of the state's on the southern border but in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and New York, the coastal beavers almost all of the time will go far enough to where they will cross an obstacle. A dike, a dam, something protecting a rice field, a fresh or brackish body of water, fish ponds, crawfish ponds, or they'll be far enough up to where they're in less than 50% salt water.

That said, I've trapped beavers in water where I was catching blue crabs and shrimp.

More often than not, by far, they'll be in water that has less height variation than a tidal creek that fluctuates several feet several times per day.

The plantations of the southeast was a fantastic example of this. The beavers would get just inside the rice fields. If a dike broke allowing salt water in, the beavers would leave if it got bad enough.

Yes I'v snared/traped beacer in brackish water.
Will stay in water where the slinity will also support blue crabs. But thats a thin line. Much more slinity in the water you will not see beaver, muskrat and snappers.

Mink and otter like salt water.
