The California D.O.T found over 200 dead crows on on California highways recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu. A Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was NOT Avian Flu. The cause of death appeared to be from vehicular impacts. However, during analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the birds' beaks and claws. By analysing these paint residues it was found that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with motorcycles, while only 2% were killed by cars.
The Agency then hired an Ornithological Behaviourist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of motorcycle kills versus car kills. The Ornithological Behaviourist quickly concluded that when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow to warn of danger. They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "motorcycle."

I have found out that they can't say "truck" very well either.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Washington state banded a bunch of crows some years back for their migratory survey. One of my wildlife profs told about working on the survey and they had gotten an irate letter from Arkansas from someone who had shot one of the crows.
He said he read the band which read: "Wash. Biol. Surv." (For Washington Biological Survey). An that he had done just what it said, washed the bird, boiled it, and served to to his family and it was still too tough to eat!

Good one! Had me going except for it wasn't adding up because I have never ever in my life ever seen a roadkill Crow.
