Around here the beaver will live way high up in the brushlines on some of those rivers.

Bank dens much, much, higher than you would expect.

I only hit the mouth of 1 river that is effected by the tide and those where bank beaver. When the tide was up they would be all over the place, when it was low I would never see them. You wouldn't even think there where any beaver there.

They make dams in the smallest little tributaries sometimes. Especially the ones that are just above the tidal influence, elevation wise. Our country is steep and mountainous.

5-7' are the common tides here

Very interesting and a world away from what I’m used to. Thanks for the input

The primary river I trap has 20 miles of tide water. Also prone to seasonal flooding. I've set traps at water line with a 20 foot cable and had dead beaver stretched out to the end of the cable, on dry land within 36 hours of setting the trap. All bank dens, no dams.

I've trapped a few in estuary areas where a creek is influenced by the tide....they were both small beaver, and just establishing a bank den. We get 20 plus foot tide swings in southeast AK...I have seen them swimming in the saltwater, in springtime...most likely dispersing.
