I read most of his books and stories when I was 10-13 years old, all that were available through the county library anyhow, read 'Call of the Wild' three times the year I was 10. I loved the way he told a story, but, you know he was a Socialist (as were most writers of the time) and Animal Rights Activist, so I kinda out grew him. I read later that he borrowed or bought a lot of his story lines. Fun reads but... not a hero for me. I like his books too. Teddy Roosevelt called him out as a nature faker and nearly ended his career.

I read a lot, always have. I've read some of his stuff and it was a pretty good change of pace from what I usually read.
I like the Jack Reacher stuff, but was appalled when 5'7" Tom Cruise got the role for the movies. He was a poor pick considering Reacher is 6'5" and 250 pounds. Better choices would have been Steve Austin or The Rock,IMO.

Next time you read him, do it with the mind set that he is trying to promote animal rights and anthropomorphism; along with the Socialist agenda. You may find it thought provoking. Teddy Roosevelt called him out as a nature faker and nearly ended his career.

Been here since 2008, but had to register again because of the 2010 crash!

If you like a more fact based outdoor writer than fiction, Russell Annabel, was the most noted adventure writer in outdoor magazines. There are a number of books available, and most are in article chapter form, so it is a nice short story read for sit down. Umm, Annabel wrote fiction.

Takes one to know one. TR another of the same ilk. So how was TR a "nature faker"? Let's see, ranched in the badlands, went on a 6 month safari in Africa, nearly died exploring the Amazon, please enlighten.
