Let's say I trap a squirrel. Get an emergency call into work. I don't have time to skin or clean it. Can I just freeze the entire carcass, and worry about skinning, and gutting it at a later date ?

Obviously I want to eat the little critter. Just wondering if I can freeze it, guts and all.. and if it would still be edible.

I would gut it right away. How long can that possibly take.

You have to gut it right away or else the guts will ruin the whole thing. Depending on the temp it will spoil pretty fast. In hot conditions it will spoil within an hour; in cold weather it might take 2-4 hours to spoil.

It takes less than a minute to skin, then gut a squirrel........why put it off?
