I drove by this store today. I'm not sure what to think of it:

What's to think about.

Hemp is an agricultural product used for paper, textiles and cordage.

My wife is taking CBD oil for insomnia. She sleeps like a lamb now and wakes up refreshed.

beaverpeeler,
It's my understanding that CBD oil has no psychoactive effects, is that true? Happy to hear it works for your wife.
It's sometime described as nearly a miracle cure-all. Just trying to figure out the truth from the hype.

Great stuff. Just plain old pot is also very good for getting rid of pain.

From what I understand what your hearing is true. They are starting to grow a lot of Hemp in my area and are processing the hemp for the oil here as well. My son has been helping them process the stalk etc. after school. I may start using some just to try it out.

All hemp here is tested and has to be less than 3% THC or it is destroyed. Very rigorous back ground checks etc. just to be able to grow it.

It is what it is.

Wadded up hemp fiber is supposed to be good wadding in a black powder shotgun. Same with flax fiber or dried Spanish moss. I'm a little skeptical about the health benefits. People advocating it sound a lot like snake oil salesmen to me. hard to believe the same product can relieve arthritis, cure shingles, stop alzheimers and make your wife feel amorous again.

My grandmother was ahead of her time. About 30 years ago, when she was 80 or so, she said that, "folks that smoke pot never seem to amount to much " . Up here in my area, that seems to hold true .

I'm not sure about the generalization but in my family that is certainly the case.

An American over the age of 21 should be allowed to buy and use pot if he chooses. When it becomes legal, will folks be allowed to grow it.

I would be ok with legalizing pot if they did away with welfare for anyone that's 21 and can work

How's that working out for them, I wonder? Federal law dictates that if you purchase one, you cannot purchase the other. Maybe, you can fill out the background check for the gun first, then purchase your pot. It's all about purchasing in the proper order, I suppose. crazy

Maybe it should not be legal for folks who drink alcohol or smoke pot to purchase or own guns? You know, choose one or the other.

Whether they legalize pot or not, they should eliminate welfare, for those able, but unwilling to work.

This is where we keep getting ourselves in trouble. Always want to restrict the next person for something we don't approve of.

That's just my point, cfowler. Too many are too fast to condemn everything others do yet expect others to accept all they do.

it is interesting times for sure. its well documented that in the 80's when nacy was doing the big " just say no!" on the white house lawn. 41 was inside, giving authorization to land c-130's in arkansas. tom cruise even played the guy on the big screen. barry seal story.

times have changed. legal recreational use in canada july 1. a lot of money being made!!

it's a tuff one, when you've got a 14 year old kid.

Cbd shops, and medical marijuana shops are all over here. I know many who take Cbd oil for various reasons and they all say it helps them. One buddy is starting a Cbd business. I would try some but it's expensive.
The medical marijuana shops are regulated like crazy. People have to show their medical card immediately in the store to even look around, unless they are a contractor who is performing work for them

THC is a concern until they can get an effective test to determine if you're under it's influence. We have great tests for alcohol in case of drunk driving or work accidents. We need the same for THC.

Hemp production would be profitable to farmers to develop poor land. Wonder what kind of habitat it would create and if in could be used as a CRP crop?

Legalize pot, but they need to role back the nanny state. Just think of the tax dollars this would generate, we would be out of debt in no time.

Hemp still grows all over in the midwest states. When I still went pheasant hunting in Iowa it grew all over in crp fields- still does. As well as our old farmstead in southern Minnesota- find it everywhere. In real dry years we used to buy hay that was cut from overgrown fields in Iowa and Nebraska and it was always mixed right in with the bales. The following summer more would grow from seeds that fell out of those bales.

Another thread of alcoholic's virtu signinling how much better they are then those low life pot smokers that have good livers. And how they should be regulated to jail, but its ok for them to sit on a barstool everynight.

Never mind the carnage from alcohol lets just look the other way.

We need to stamp out freedom guys, lets get busy.

Carry on.

The topic was HEMP, NOT medical marijuana. Long list of commercial uses for hemp. Right now two companies are producing absorbent material for oil companies to use on oil spills in the ocean. beltrami trapper is correct. Before the government stopped legal production of hemp in the US it was grown all over the Midwest. Remnants are everywhere, but it has such a low THC content that it should not be confused with the legalized marijuana industry. Until recently it was illegal to own anything but sterile hemp seeds in the US.

I've been fighting some mice and rats love to pack the seed around and hide it, to start it some where else. A lot was grown here for the war effort back before synthetic materials were available.

How did this thread about Hemp turn into a thread about Marijuana? They are 2 different things.

Maybe, but back then the campaign against marijuana was aimed at getting hemp out of the paper and rope industries.

I looked up the scientific names once before and they both had the same name, of course science changes as the money does.

Doesn't the federal law against marijuana also include hemp? I don't think farmers can grow hemp because of the same laws that prohibit smoking it. If I remember correctly, a Native American in one of the western states was prohibited from growing hemp on his farm, on the reservation, because of the federal prohibition. There is an attempt in MO, at this time, to pass laws allowing the growing of hemp for industrial uses.

It used to be said that the big paper company and the inventor of nylon campaigned against hemp for monetary reasons and marijuana was included in the ban of hemp.

The hemp that is grown around here will not get you high. They probably used the getting high thing to get the Hemp phased out. Actually they say that the industrial hemp will pollinate with the illegal marijuana that is grown and weaken it to an undesirable level.

I think by law you are supposed to destroy "ditch weed" wherever it grows. I don't around my place.
I assume this is a left over from the hemp crop days.

lebanon mo,
I was taking Cbd oil to see if it would help me . I don’t believe it’s a cure all for me but it did stop my blood sugar from running away on me , it helped my eyes when blood sugar was high . Made me less mean and gave me more clear thinking , I believe it was reducing the inflammation in my brain from my diabetes .

I was told here in Iowa that back in WW2 that the fed gave permits to grow hemp. For the uses that was stated. It still grow wild out here also like stated. but there is a different in hemp and pot. One has even number of leaf that is hemp and the odd number is pot.Too many can not tell the different type. I know sheep love it.I was doing a problem of coyote for a guy that had sheep years ago and he had a area full of wild pot and some sweet pea. and the sheep ate all the wild pot that was there and left all the sweet pea and grass alone.I was funny to see. Yes wild pot is low grade. As someone stated that the cross of hemp and wild pot down grade it.That is true. That is why it is call ditch weed out here also.if they worry about some smoke it .I was told years ago that some kids had smoke corn silk.

Growing hemp was necessary during the war. Hemp rope was used by the ton. Just watched a video on this. I have no use for pot, but hemp isn't the same thing.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

My wife has MS and she has used CBD oil. It helps with muscles pains. She even got me to try it when I strained my back. It was surprising how fast the pain decreased in my muscles. I used it two days, and haven't tried it since. Haven't even thought about it actually til I read your post. There's tons of products that can be made from Hemp or Marijuana. Will people abuse it. Sure. I'd almost be willing to bet that, despite laws prohibiting it's use, people misuse marijuana anyways. Probably costs us a boat load of money trying to stop this prohibited use too. Whereas it could be taxed, and it could be the first time the "dead-beat pot-head" pays taxes!
